The man later told police that as he attempted to leave with their daughter, Ivanna lunged toward him and tried to grab his phone. He said she missed, lunged again, and began throwing punches. All the while, the ex-husband said he repeatedly told Ivanna to stop.

Their commotion prompted a neighbor to come out of their home, and that’s when the ex-couple separated and the ex-husband called 911.

The responding officer observed a scratch on the right side of the man’s face. Meanwhile, the couple’s daughter was reportedly left extremely distressed during the altercation.

The officer noted she was crying so intensely she was hyperventilating and repeatedly said she didn’t want anyone to go to jail. Ivanna later claimed that her ex had been provoking her upon his arrival at her residence, and that’s when she grabbed his phone.

She also alleged that he struck her with the phone, pushed her to the ground, and grabbed her hair before placing a hand around her neck to subdue her. Ivanna said she defended herself by throwing punches at him.

However, the responding officer concluded that Ivanna appeared to be “the primary aggressor.” Three months later, she was arrested for allegedly violating the conditions of her pretrial release associated with that domestic battery case. Records also show she was previously cited for careless driving in 2021.

Disturbing Messages Surface Online

Fast-forward to today, and an even more disturbing layer has emerged: Investigators say Ivanna had posted a number of alarming messages online before the shooting.

One message posted on X less than two weeks before the incident allegedly targeted Rihanna directly:

“@badgirlriri Are you there? Cause I was waiting for your AIDS 5-head self to say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.”

Overall, Ivanna is accused of firing about ten shots from a car parked across the street from the home before fleeing the scene. Police later tracked her down and arrested her on the attempted murder charge.

Rihanna Is Now Focused on Safety

In the aftermath of the incident, sources say Rihanna has been left shaken and confused about why her family was targeted, and she is now taking extra precautions to ensure her family’s safety.

For Rihanna, the situation is also a grim reminder of past security scares. Back in 2018, a man managed to break into her Hollywood Hills property after jumping a fence.

The intruder — identified as Eduardo Leon — allegedly remained inside the house for nearly 12 hours before being discovered by one of her assistants. Eduardo later pleaded no contest to stalking and received a 10-year stay-away order.

Now, with another frightening incident unfolding years later, fans are once again rallying around the superstar, relieved that this time, everyone inside the house made it out safely.

Eight children were dead by the time officers arrived on April 19, 2026. Two women had been shot and wounded. And somewhere in the chaos of that early morning, a single child had done something desperate enough to survive — while seven siblings and a cousin did not.

What police found when they stepped inside that home, how the lone surviving child escaped, and what was driving the man behind it all would take hours to piece together, and the full picture is only now coming into focus.

The First Calls for Help

The first emergency call came in at 5:55 a.m. CDT. The caller reported being “on top of the house” while the suspect remained inside. Within minutes, she reported that she and her children had fled from the roof and were now in the backyard.

Police Chief Wayne Smith, recounting the chain of events on Monday, said the situation escalated fast. A second emergency call came in shortly after. A woman reported that her boyfriend had shot her, taken her three children, and fled the scene.

Then came a report of a carjacking, and information suggesting the children taken from the second home might be inside that vehicle. At approximately 6:29 a.m., officers located the suspect and exchanged gunfire with him. He was found dead at the scene. The children were not in the car.

Eight Lives Lost

The Caddo Parish coroner’s office confirmed eight children were killed — three boys and five girls, ranging in age from 3 to 11.

Their mothers identified them as Jayla Elkins, 3; Shayla Elkins, 5; Kayla Pugh, 6; Layla Pugh, 7; Markaydon Pugh, 10; Sariahh Snow, 11; Khedarrion Snow, 6; and Braylon Snow, 5.

Seven were the suspect’s own children. The eighth was a cousin.

Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, the children’s father and an Army veteran. He had used an assault-style weapon to execute a crime so gruesome that the community is still reeling.

What Officers Found Inside

When Shreveport officers stepped into that rental home, nothing could have prepared them for what was inside.

Shreveport Corporal Christopher Bordelon described the scene in stark terms: “There’s blood and bodies everywhere. Some were shot in the bed, some were shot trying to get away.”

Eight children were found dead in and around the home. Some had not even made it out of their beds. As for what Shamar intended, Bordelon was direct:

“I think he just had it in his mind he was going to kill everybody in the house. I don’t think there was much thought processes to order. I don’t know that he necessarily had a plan other than just to kill everybody.”

How One Child Made It Out

Of all the children inside that home, only one survived, and the way they escaped is as harrowing as the tragedy itself.

A 13-year-old boy, whose relationship to Shamar has not been confirmed, jumped from the roof of the home in a desperate bid to get away. He broke his leg on impact. It was enough to save his life.

He was taken to the hospital and survived — the only child to do so. The woman who had earlier called 911 from the rooftop and a child who escaped with her were also listed in stable condition. Everyone else was not as fortunate.

What Led to the Carnage?

The question of why a father would do this to his own children is one investigators are still working to answer. But those closest to Shamar say the warning signs were there, and that they had tried to reach him.

On Easter Sunday, just weeks before the massacre, Shamar called his mother, Mahelia Elkins, and his stepfather, Marcus Jackson, in Oklahoma City. His children could be heard playing in the background.

According to the New York Times, he told them through tears that he wanted to take his own life, that he was drowning in dark thoughts, and that his wife, Shaneiqua Pugh, wanted a divorce.

Marcus urged him to push through it. “I told him, ‘You can beat stuff, man. I don’t care what you’re going through, you can beat it,'” he said. Shamar’s response stayed with him: “Some people don’t come back from their demons.”

Shamar hung up after promising to pass a greeting to his children. Records show he and Shaneiqua had been married since April 2024.

The Army confirmed he served in the Louisiana Army National Guard from August 2013 to August 2020, leaving as a private with no overseas deployment. He had been working for UPS.

Police said they were aware of reports that Shamar had been going through a divorce and was due in court the very next day — Monday, April 20.

A Community Confronting the Unthinkable

Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn pointed to a painful irony: a new domestic violence center had opened in Shreveport just 10 days before the massacre.

Several officials who attended that opening were standing at the same press conference where they announced the deaths of eight children.

“I don’t believe that any of us could have imagined that only days later our community would be shaken by the most heartbreaking tragedy we have ever witnessed,” Whitehorn said.

In our earlier coverage, we shared initial details about the timeline, the victims, and the community’s reaction as information was still unfolding. At the time, several aspects were unclear.

As we had reported, a shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, on April 19, 2026, left eight children dead and two others injured — an incident authorities said involved someone within the home.

Authorities then began outlining what happened, as someone in the neighborhood described the sudden chaos.

A Timeline of Violence Emerges

Police in Shreveport responded to reports of a shooting involving multiple victims. Investigators said the gunman shot 10 people in total, killing eight children and wounding two women.

Authorities identified the suspect as Shamar Elkins, the children’s father. Seven of the children were found inside the residence, while an eighth was discovered on the back roof.

Additionally, two women were wounded in the shooting, including Shamar’s wife, Shaneiqua Elkins, who was shot in the face and survived, and another woman believed to be his girlfriend.

A teenager was also reportedly injured after falling from the roof, but did not suffer gunshot wounds. As investigators continued examining the case, officials said the motive remains unclear.

“We know it’s domestic in nature, we know his wife is involved, and she is the mother of at least seven of the children, with the eighth being a family friend,” said Christopher Bordelon, a spokesperson for the Shreveport Police Department.

Authorities said a small-caliber handgun was used in part of the violence, and Shamar was armed with a rifle-style pistol when officers confronted him.

Officers later confronted Shamar and fatally shot him, bringing the immediate threat to an end.

Authorities also reported that many of the children appeared to have been shot while asleep, most sustaining gunshot wounds to the head.

As more details emerged, attention turned to what Shamar’s life looked like in the days leading up to the shooting.

A Glimpse Into Their Facebook Activity

Before the shooting, Shamar remained active on Facebook, sharing moments from his daily life that often centered on his children, though his profile listed little personal information beyond his gender.

Just days before the incident, he posted a photo of his eldest child sitting in the front seat of a vehicle and eating a burger during what he described as a one-on-one outing.

Back on April 6, he shared a photo of himself standing outside a home with several children, dressed for Easter, and gathered closely together.

Earlier posts took on a more introspective tone.

In one post dated April 9, he shared a lengthy prayer centered on strength, peace, and protection. In another post from March 12, he shared a short message that read, “Understand to be misunderstood.”

On February 13, he shared a photo showing several children sitting on the floor inside a home, gathered closely around large open trays of food as they ate together during a casual group meal.

Tragedy struck the Gainesville community on Friday, March 6, 2026, when 40-year-old Jason Hughes passed away. A cherished math teacher and athletic coach at North Hall High School, Hughes lost his life due to the actions of a group of 18-year-olds late that evening.

The worst part is that it wasn’t the first time Hughes had been a target. Now, arrests have been made, and a curious post from one of the teenagers has attracted attention.

A Night That Started Like Any Other

Just before midnight on a Friday, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded to an emergency report originating from the 4400 block of North Gate Drive.

Deputies arrived at approximately 11:40 p.m. to find Hughes unresponsive outside his home. He was rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center immediately, but unfortunately, his injuries were too severe, and he died later that night.

Just minutes before that call came in, the night had looked like something completely normal.

Police reports indicate that 18-year-old Jayden Ryan Wallace and four others went to the Hughes home to cover the trees in toilet paper. This act was part of a long-standing tradition involving a prank war between the school’s junior and senior classes.

When Hughes came outside and spotted them, the group rushed to get into two vehicles and leave. What happened in those next few seconds would change everything.

As Wallace started to drive his pickup truck away, Hughes stumbled and fell onto the pavement, leading to an irreversible moment as the truck ran him over. The teens pulled over right away to try and help the teacher, staying by his side until paramedics reached the scene.

More Than a Teacher

The loss has devastated the North Hall High School community, where Hughes was far more than a face in a classroom.

Beyond his role as a math teacher and member of the school’s leadership team, he acted as an academic coach for the football team and organized weekly Bible study sessions for the coaches.

Furthermore, he guided and supported students as a mentor within the school’s NG3 program.

The North Hall High School head football coach shared an emotional tribute to Hughes, noting his remarkable talent for building bonds with others.

He explained that Hughes possessed a unique gift for making people feel important and encouraging them.

According to the coach, Hughes also firmly advocated for the impact that meaningful personal relationships can have on a community.

It was a philosophy Hughes apparently lived every day, as friends recalled that he often asked people around him, “How can I serve you better?“

In an official statement, the Hall County School District honored Hughes’ life. “Our hearts are broken,” a district spokesperson said. “Jason Hughes was a loving husband, a devoted father, a passionate teacher, mentor, and coach who was loved and respected by students and colleagues.”

The Outpouring That Followed

Hughes is survived by his wife, Laura Hughes, and their two young sons, Owen and Luke Hughes. An online fundraiser created for his family has already surpassed $200,000 in donations.

The organizer noted that Hughes’ life served as a gift to countless people. They expressed that his unexpected death will leave his wife and two young sons facing an incredibly painful road ahead for many years.

Outside the school, a memorial of flowers has grown in Hughes’ honor.

On Saturday evening, sophomore Olivia Williams joined those visiting to pay tribute. Although she never sat in his classroom, his wife serves as her math teacher, making the loss feel deeply personal despite the lack of a direct student-teacher bond.

According to Williams, Hughes maintained deep roots within the community, and his passing has deeply affected many people.

She noted his constant presence at local events and his reputation for being exceptionally outgoing. Regardless of the occasion, he was known for his enthusiastic support and for being a constant source of encouragement to those around him.

Shayden Maynor, a former student who maintained a relationship with Hughes years after graduation, also visited the school to mourn. Maynor explained that he viewed Hughes as a reliable mentor he could call whenever he faced personal challenges or needed financial guidance.

Regarding the Saturday gathering, Maynor noted, “We grieved together, we laughed, we made jokes, and it was just really bad for the community that we has [sic] lost somebody so special like that.”

The Prank That Went Too Far

What many may not realize is just how deliberate the targeting was, and how loaded the tradition actually was. According to reports, Hughes had been a prank war target in previous years, and under last year’s rules, kids could earn two points for covering a teacher’s house in toilet paper.

The fact that both Hughes and his wife worked at North Hall made their home a prime location. Students also risked losing points if they were caught by the teacher, which may help explain the rushed exit that led to tragedy.

The district, it turns out, had even issued a warning to students against participating in the prank wars just hours before the incident unfolded.

Wallace now faces charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, criminal trespass, and littering on private property, and is being held on a $1,950 bond, according to jail records.

The other four 18-year-old individuals, Elijiah Owens, Aiden Hucks, Ana Katherine Luque, and Ariana Cruz, all face misdemeanor charges, including littering and criminal trespass.

A Haunting Message Online

As the story spread, attention turned to Wallace’s social media, specifically a 2024 post on Threads in which he shared a Bible verse:

“Romans 10:9 – ‘If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.'”

The post has struck many as an eerie contrast to the events that followed.

For the North Hall community, the grief is still raw. But Hughes’ colleagues say his legacy, built on faith, mentorship, and a genuine love for the people around him, will endure long after the flowers at the memorial have faded.

Four teenagers from a small Christian school in North Georgia left for spring break last Monday morning, headed for the sandy shores of St. George Island, Florida.

By the time the day was over, three of them were gone, and one was fighting for her life.

A Road Trip That Ended in Tragedy

The four teens were students at Horizon Christian Academy in Cumming, Georgia, a tight-knit private school serving about 300 students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

They were heading to the island to visit family and friends, the kind of trip that, for a teenager, feels like the beginning of something exciting. What happened on the road would leave two communities shattered.

The four students — Jackson Mobley, 18; Jaylyn Fehr, 17; Charlotte Martin, 16; and Jamison Mobley, 17 — were traveling along Highway 65 in Franklin County, Florida, when their vehicle went off the road.

The wreck was severe enough that Franklin County Sheriff AJ Tony Smith announced the highway would be shut down for six to seven hours while authorities investigated.

“We’ve had a really terrible traffic crash up there with fatalities,” Smith said in a live address to the county. “Keep all the families and victims in your prayers and thoughts[…] Just a tough time right now.”

Good Samaritans and an off-duty law enforcement officer stopped at the scene and immediately rendered aid. Authorities say their quick action was instrumental in saving the life of the one teen who survived — Jamison, who was airlifted to a hospital and remains in recovery.

Jackson, Jaylyn, and Charlotte did not survive. Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the wreck. Officials also confirmed that not all of the teens were wearing seatbelts at the time.

Bright Lights Extinguished

Back in Cumming, the news hit Horizon Christian Academy like a wave. The school described the three students as “amazing, kind, smart, and loved,” and opened its chapel as a space for students and families to grieve.

Two of the three who died — Jaylyn and Charlotte — were also athletes with the A5 Gwinnett Volleyball Club. Their coach, April Mifflin, spoke about the kind of people they were beyond the sport.

“They were teammates, friends, daughters, and bright lights within our community,” Mifflin said. “Their impact reached far beyond the court.”

The club described the loss as “unimaginable,” saying it had deeply affected coaches, teammates, and families across the entire organization.

A Community Rallies for Jaylyn

Jaylyn was a junior. Beyond volleyball, she was deeply involved in her faith — attending youth group at Northpoint Community Church and actively participating in Local Forsyth.

A GoFundMe campaign, started by Cassie Marini to help Jaylyn’s family cover travel costs, funeral arrangements, and the expense of bringing her home, had already raised over $30,000 of its $35,000 goal at the time of publication.

One of the people who started the fundraiser, Cassie Pittman Marini, wrote a message that captured what so many were feeling:

“There are no words to describe the pain we are feeling. The only thing we can do is trust. She was like a daughter to me. I don’t even know how to process. Jaylyn Fehr will forever be in the forefront of our hearts and souls. My prayer is that God will reveal to us His purpose. His plan. Godspeed sweet baby girl.”

Two States, One Grief

In Franklin County, Florida, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office announced that memorial crosses would be placed at the crash site to honor Jackson, Jaylyn, and Charlotte.

“When a life is lost in our community, no matter where someone calls home, we feel that loss together,” the office said.

As Jamison continues to recover, the people who loved these four teenagers — coaches, classmates, pastors, and parents — are left holding the weight of what one Monday morning took away.

Three young lives, a spring break road trip, and a highway in Florida that now carries a grief no community should have to know.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol.

The sudden loss of such promising young lives has a way of stopping the world in its tracks. Much like the Georgia community currently searching for answers, another family recently faced a similar nightmare when a different “bright light” was taken during a heroic final act.

What happened to seven-year-old Abel Friday-Williams has left a North Carolina community reeling and a grieving family pleading for one thing: awareness.

A Family’s Worst Nightmare Unfolds

According to a press release from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, multiple agencies responded to an alarming report at Bruce Meisner Park in Hickory, North Carolina, on the evening of April 1, 2026.

Officials said emergency responders recovered a seven-year-old boy who had been submerged in a body of water connected to the park. He was taken to Frye Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office said its Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident. Authorities also noted that additional information may be released as it becomes available.

At first, the tragedy appeared to be yet another terrible accident involving a child and water. But as loved ones began speaking out, the circumstances surrounding Friday-Williams’ death became even more emotional.

In a WSOC-TV report, family members said the little boy had gone to the area with a friend. Investigators also said they were looking into information that the child may have gone into the water to help another child.

The outlet reported that the boy was found in a pond at the bottom of a small waterfall near Bruce Meisner Park shortly after 7 p.m. Deputies were also quoted as saying they had received information that, in addition to being there with a friend, Friday-Williams had been there with an adult and may have been unsupervised at the time.

That same report added another troubling detail: the city of Hickory said the drowning, which is how Friday-Williams passed away, did not happen on park property, but in an area that is part of the city’s Northwest wastewater treatment pump station.

City leaders also said they did not build the trail leading to the area and that it was not intended for public use. That revelation has only deepened the family’s anguish.

Loved Ones Speak Through Their Grief

Speaking to the outlet, Friday-Williams’ aunt, Brianna Sledge, shared a warning no loved one should ever have to give after such a loss. “There needs to be awareness, um, that this is very dangerous. Just looking at the situation is very, very, very dangerous. It’s heartbreaking.” Then came the detail that made the story even more devastating…

As People reported, Friday-Williams’ family believes the seven-year-old lost his life while attempting a heroic act. In other words, this was not simply a child wandering too close to danger; his loved ones say he acted out of instinct and courage.

His aunt, Sledge, heartbreakingly said, “It breaks my heart because he saved his friend and lost his life. He went in behind his friend to save his life and lost his.”

A Community Left Shaken

That single sentence says so much about who Friday-Williams was. At just seven years old, his family says he tried to help someone else and paid the ultimate price.

Several outlets also reported that community member Tara Rink claimed she had recently seen another frightening incident at the same falls, saying a man had to jump in to save a little girl. “I assisted in pulling them out because there’s no way I could have gotten them out [sic] because the rocks are too slick. It’s nothing but slime. It was terrifying.“

Friday-Williams’ family is now hoping the little boy’s story will do more than break hearts…they want it to save lives.

Authorities say 17-year-old Keyan Jayden Rundell was arrested on August 5 in Manatee County on two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18.

Rose and Campbell grew up together in Volusia County before their lives took them in different directions. Rose, of DeLeon Springs, had been living in South Carolina, where he was studying Intelligence and Security Studies at The Citadel while serving in the South Carolina Army National Guard.

Campbell, of DeLand, had recently moved to the Chicago area to live with his aunt, Karen Chobin. “These were very, very good boys that could have done really good in the world,” Chobin said.

Family members expected the visit to be brief. “(Campbell) was supposed to be coming back this weekend, and (Rose) was supposed to be going back to school on Tuesday,” Chobin said.

The aunt added that Campbell was staying with Rose’s grandparents.

Their Last Known Movements Left Families Searching for Answers

While staying with Rose’s grandparents, the two friends left together on Tuesday evening. A surveillance camera later captured what they were wearing during what would become their last confirmed sighting.

As the hours passed without hearing from them, concern grew among their loved ones. By the following night, family members began searching for the pair.

The Search Ended in a Place No One Expected

Around 10:40 p.m. on July 29, police responded after one of the teens’ mothers found the two young men at a vacant industrial property at 213 W. New York Ave.

Authorities later clarified that, despite early reports, the property was not part of the nearby Athens Theatre. Both teenagers had been shot multiple times and were pronounced dead at the scene at 10:48 p.m.

Why They Had Returned Makes the Loss Even More Heartbreaking

Only after their deaths did family members share what had brought the childhood friends back to DeLand. According to Chobin, Campbell had returned home to spread the ashes of his family’s 8-year-old dog, Hinata, after what she described as a traumatic loss.

Rose traveled from South Carolina to support his lifelong friend during that difficult time:

“It was a traumatic loss. It wasn’t a passing of old age. It was awful. And then for this to be what he’s welcomed with when he goes down there to mourn his loss is devastating,” Chobin said.

How Detectives Identified a Suspect

As family members mourned, investigators worked around the clock to determine what had happened during the friends’ final hours. Chief Jason Umberger later said the investigation consumed nearly 1,200 personnel hours in less than a week as detectives reviewed surveillance footage, collected physical evidence, and followed up on public tips.

“I am incredibly proud of how hard my team worked,” Umberger said. “Nearly 1,200 hours of personnel time was dedicated to this case in less than a week to find answers for these families.”

According to police, surveillance footage collected during the investigation helped detectives identify 17-year-old Rundell as a person of interest by the afternoon after the bodies were discovered.

Investigators then executed a search warrant at a residence roughly three miles from the crime scene. During that search, detectives recovered clothing they believe Rundell wore on the night of the killings, along with an e-bike they say he used to travel to and from the industrial property.

Authorities also said they collected digital evidence documenting the suspect’s movements immediately after the shootings, strengthening the case before an arrest warrant was issued.

Although investigators said they have not determined a motive, Umberger said evidence indicates the suspect and both victims knew one another. “What we do know is that these young men knew each other in some capacity and met up on Tuesday evening, July 28, at that location,” Umberger said.

Police added that an altercation preceded the fatal shootings.

How Investigators Followed the Trail to an Arrest

Working with the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, detectives tracked Rundell to Manatee County after learning he had left the area.

Authorities arrested the 17-year-old without incident at a Super 8 motel in Ellenton, where U.S. Marshals said he opened the door to his room before being taken into custody. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and is awaiting extradition to Volusia County.

Umberger credited the swift arrest to investigators, who devoted nearly 1,200 personnel hours to the case in less than a week. “I am incredibly proud of how hard my team worked,” Umberger said. “Nearly 1,200 hours of personnel time was dedicated to this case in less than a week to find answers for these families.”

The chief also thanked members of the community, noting that more than 30 tips were submitted during the investigation and played what he described as a “pivotal role” in helping detectives solve the case.

Although police believe Rundell was the only shooter, investigators said their work is far from over. Detectives are continuing to examine whether anyone may have helped conceal his whereabouts or otherwise assisted him after the killings.

Additional arrests remain possible as the investigation continues. “The families of Dustin Rose and Samson Campbell deserve justice,” Umberger said.

State Attorney R.J. Larrizza said prosecutors are now reviewing how the case should proceed. “We typically charge these as adults,” he said. “And we’ll also look at whether or not second-degree murder is appropriate or for more serious charges.”

Even with an arrest, investigators say one major question remains unanswered. Authorities have not identified a motive and continue working to determine what led to the altercation that ended the lives of the two childhood friends.

Loved Ones Remembered Two Friends Whose Lives Were Beginning

As investigators searched for answers, those closest to Rose and Campbell spoke instead about the lives the two friends had lived and the futures they believed still lay ahead.

Chobin said both teenagers possessed a kindness that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew them. “These were very, very good boys that could have done really good in the world,” she said.

Remembering her nephew, Chobin described Campbell as “the kindest soul.” “His brain was like a puzzle, but in the most beautiful way. He could just see things that other people couldn’t and really cared with a level of compassion that people strive their whole lives to have,” she said.

She also reflected on the friendship the two young men shared, saying Rose’s willingness to return from South Carolina to support Campbell during a difficult time spoke volumes about his character.

“When (Campbell) was grieving the loss of his dog, that boy was there in such an emotionally intelligent way that goes far beyond his age of 19 years old,” she said.

As she mourned the loss of both teenagers, Chobin also shared a message for the person responsible. “We beg you to consider the people that are home grieving the losses of the lives that you took, and may they realize that nothing that they gained from that situation was worth the life of those two boys,” she said. “May they suffer with that knowledge for the rest of their lives.”

Rose’s family likewise remembered a young man who had dedicated himself to serving others. His aunt, Jaimie Scarola, said he had dreamed of serving his country through the military and had recently joined the South Carolina Army National Guard while attending The Citadel.

“He was willing to go to the front line and fight for our freedom, including the freedom of the one who took him from us,” Scarola said.

She later added, “I feel like he was too young.” Reflecting on what her family had lost, Scarola said, “You took him away from not only his family, but you robbed an entire country of a future soldier who didn’t get to answer that call.”

Justice Greer is sharing heartbreaking memories of the mother and twin sister she lost after a shooting outside their Missouri home changed her family’s life forever.

According to the family’s shared obituary, Justice’s mother and sister died on July 27 after suffering critical injuries in the shooting. “Though their lives ended far too soon, the love they shared as mother and daughter will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew them,“ the family wrote in the obituary.

The family’s loss began two days earlier. The evening of July 25, 2026 began like countless others for Justice’s mother, Jessica Lashly, and her 17-year-old daughter, Jersey Greer.

An Evening That Changed Everything

According to the New York Post, citing the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the mother and daughter had just returned to their House Springs, Missouri, home around 8:30 p.m.

Not long after they arrived, they encountered their 73-year-old neighbor, Robert Winkelman. What happened over the next few moments unfolded quickly.

Before anyone nearby could fully understand what was happening, gunfire erupted outside the home. Jessica, Jersey, and Winkelman were all rushed to area hospitals with critical injuries. While paramedics fought to save them, detectives began trying to understand exactly what had unfolded outside the home.

The Authorities’ Search for Answers Begins

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, multiple detectives who had been working an unrelated homicide investigation nearby immediately responded to assist.

Officials said several witnesses remained at the scene and helped detectives begin reconstructing the sequence of events. Deputies soon encountered Winkelman outside his own residence. Authorities said that as they approached him and attempted to take him into custody, he turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the head.

He, Jessica, and Jersey were all transported to area hospitals in critical condition. As detectives continued interviewing witnesses, the confrontation began coming into focus.

The Truth About What Happened Begins to Emerge

According to the New York Post’s report, investigators determined that Winkelman had walked to Jessica’s home to question her about “activities at the residence. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office characterized the incident to Fox News Digital as a “dispute between neighbors,” as investigators learned that Winkelman had “ongoing frustrations” with activities at Lashly’s home.

Authorities said Jessica commented on the encounter. Investigators allege Winkelman then pulled out a firearm and shot Jessica in the head.

Instead of trying to escape, Jersey rushed to her mother’s side. Investigators said the teenager attempted to provide first aid before Winkelman allegedly shot her in the head as well.

The Sheriff’s Office also said a third person at the residence was chased while Winkelman was armed but was not shot. As investigators slowly uncovered the final moments of the shooting, Justice was learning those same heartbreaking details herself.

The Question Justice Couldn’t Escape

In an interview with KSDK, Justice said she has replayed the evening over and over in her mind. “I don’t know if I could’ve maybe helped them or something.” She continued:

“They had just gotten home, and I kept thinking I wish my mom weren’t outside at that time. Obviously it wasn’t her fault. We don’t even know our neighbors, so it’s not anything she could’ve controlled.”

During the interview, the grieving sister revealed that she had been at work when everything unfolded.

As she replayed the events in her mind during the interview, she spoke of what she thought when she learned of her twin sister’s last hours, saying, “Jersey’s last moments, she was trying to save my mom. It just shows how brave she is, and I hope I can be half as brave as she is.”

The Case Took Another Turn

The investigation continued even as Jessica and Jersey’s family began mourning their loss. According to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, investigators amended the case to charge Winkelman with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action after Jessica and Jersey died from their injuries.

Justice’s aunt, Lindsey Oberkramer, said the family hoped he would face the consequences of his actions. “I hope he gets great care so that he can face the consequences for his actions.”

She added, “We do want justice for Jersey, and the play on words is crazy because Justice and Jersey are twins, and we are trying to find justice for Jersey.”

But the criminal case came to an unexpected end before it could ever reach a courtroom. According to an update from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Winkelman died at a local hospital on Aug. 2 from the self-inflicted gunshot wound he suffered when deputies confronted him on July 25.

“Robert Winkelman, the suspect in the July 25th double shooting in House Springs, is dead,” the Sheriff’s Office announced.

Remembering Jessica and Jersey

For Justice, however, the tragedy has never been defined by court filings or criminal charges. Instead, she wants people to remember who Jessica and Jersey were long before July 25.

In her interview with KSDK, Justice described her deceased twin as the kind of person who could brighten anyone’s day.

“She was literally just the funniest person ever. She could make anybody laugh. She was really supportive about anything and everything. She could always tell when someone was sad or needed uplifting, and she was always the one to do it.”

The sisters had been preparing to begin their senior year at Northwest High School in Cedar Hill and dreamed of continuing to play lacrosse together in college.

“We were going to play together in college. We didn’t know where yet, but we were reaching out.” Justice said she can’t imagine life without the sister who had always been by her side. Jessica, she added, was just as devoted.

“She was really hardworking. She was always there. She was so supportive. I never doubted how good of a mom she was.” She continued:

“It was always just us three. It’s going to be really hard because that’s all I’m used to.”

The Legacy Jessica and Jersey Left Behind

Justice wasn’t the only person remembering Jessica and Jersey. Lacrosse coach Abby Feldmann told KSDK that Jersey had a rare ability to inspire everyone around her. “Jersey’s someone that can change your whole perspective on life. She’s motivational, inspiring, kind, witty, and the most optimistic person I ever knew.”

Abby said teammates naturally followed Jersey’s lead. “There’s not one person who would refuse to follow her. Everyone’s behind her. She’s really an amazing girl.”

Before speaking publicly, Abby asked members of the Northwest High School girls lacrosse team to describe Jersey in one word. Their answers included motivational, goofy, supportive, loud, welcoming, leader, compassionate, brave, determined, relentless, and bright light.

Jessica’s sister remembered the pair in much the same way. Calling Jessica “a firecracker,” Justice’s aunt said, “You never really knew what she was going to say, but she always had the right thing to say.”

She added that both mother and daughter always tried to lift others, even during difficult moments. “They were the two funniest people I’ve ever met in my life. Even if it was [sic] a bad situation, they would both be trying to find the light in it, crack a joke, and lighten the mood for everyone.”

One Final Gift Jessica and Jersey Gave

Amid the heartbreak, the family found one measure of comfort. According to the New York Post, friends said Jersey’s donated organs helped save six people across the country.

Before the donations took place, hundreds of relatives, classmates, teammates, and community members gathered for Jessica and Jersey’s Honor Walk.

Justice remembered that emotional moment. “It was so crazy seeing everyone there at one time and actually realizing I had to say goodbye.”

Despite her grief, she said she was proud that her mother and sister had chosen to become organ donors. “They’ll save so many people. That’s one of the only good things coming out of this.”
