The cancellation was an unexpected turn for Barbara Eden. In the months leading up to Cinecon, the actress had been making public appearances, celebrating her career, and even talking about the kind of acting role she would take next.

Eden was set to take part in Cinecon 62, held September 3 through Sept. 7, 2026, at the Landmark Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles.

The five-day Classic Film Festival marked Cinecon’s 62nd year with classic film and television screenings, celebrity guests, and special programs. The Labor Day weekend event also brought together archivists, authors, collectors, and film fans.

This year’s honorees included Eden, Nancy Kwan, Lainie Kazan, and Anna Maria Alberghetti, who were selected to receive Cinecon Legacy Awards for their work across stage, screen, and television.

Eden’s tribute included a screening of “All Hands on Deck,” the 1961 musical comedy she made with Pat Boone, followed by the presentation of her Legacy Award. The event was set to become another public appearance for Eden shortly after her birthday.

At 95, Eden Was Showing No Signs of Stepping Away

A few months before Cinecon, Eden appeared at KTLA for Project Angel Food’s seventh annual “Lead with Love: Going the Distance” telethon.

The June 27 fundraiser raised $589,000, easily surpassing its $500,000 goal. Eden said the money would help provide meals to critically ill people in Los Angeles County.

Photos from the event showed Eden standing on the brightly lit KTLA set. She wore a crisp white pantsuit over a vivid royal-blue top. Her blonde hair was styled in soft, voluminous waves with bangs, and she accessorized with hoop earrings and a short necklace.

In one photo Eden shared on Facebook, she smiled broadly with her hands together while two hosts laughed beside her.

Her account of the evening matched the cheerful scene. “I had a delightful time last night at KTLA with Project Angel Food for the 2026 fundraising event!” Eden wrote on Facebook.

She had more praise for the two men who joined her in the telethon. “Our hosts Eric McCormack and Steven Weber had me in stitches!” Eden wrote. “It really was a lot of fun!”

Eden followed that post with another message about why supporting the organization mattered to her. She noted that Project Angel Food provides medically tailored meals to people in need, including those whose health prevents them from providing food for themselves.

The idea recalled “Bad Jeannie,” the troublemaking counterpart Eden also played on “I Dream of Jeannie.” But whether a potential character was good or bad was not her main condition for returning to a role.

Staying active was an important part of her routine. Eden once attended spinning classes and trained with weights, but the COVID-19 pandemic brought those heavier workouts to an end. She adapted by exercising at home.

“Now I have a stationary bicycle and I lift five pounds,” Eden said. “I use very lightweight weights, but they’re good for your bones.”

Eden also preferred brisk walking to running. She had tried aerobics but decided the exercise was not for her.

“If you can walk briskly, which suits me just fine, that’s good for you,” she said. “It’s good for your knees and ankles. I find it better than running.”

Food was another area where Eden favored moderation rather than strict restrictions. She credited her parents with teaching her that approach.

“My mother’s mantra was ‘moderation of all things,'” Eden told the outlet. “That’s how they lived, and that’s how I’ve lived.”

Moderation did not require her to give up dessert. Eden called herself “a sugar eater” and discussed her fondness for key lime pie, angel food cake with a sweet lemon icing, and chocolates.

One Part of Her Beauty Routine Goes Back Decades

Eden also emphasized keeping her face clean, removing her makeup every night, and moisturizing before bed. One step in that routine, however, had been part of her life long before her Hollywood career.

“I’ve been using a serum on my face since I was a teenager,” Eden told Fox News Digital. Her skincare advice centered on maintaining a consistent nightly routine.

“When I wear makeup, I remove it with a gentle facial cleanser that foams up,” she said. “I never go to bed without washing my face. I like to moisturize and go to sleep clean.”

Her years working in Hollywood also taught her practical makeup techniques. Eden said she learned from professional makeup artists on set, including how to apply eyeliner.

But when the conversation turned to what kept her going, Eden focused on remaining active and productive.

“I say, just be busy. Be productive. That’s so important,” she said. Eden made clear that the philosophy was personal to her, adding, “It’s important to me.”

Then Came the Last-Minute Change at Cinecon

Cinecon’s plans changed shortly before Eden was expected to take part in her Legacy Award celebration.

The festival first posted a notice on its website saying that Eden and fellow honoree Alberghetti would no longer be able to appear that weekend. The statement read: “We join you in sending them our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Thank you for your understanding.”

Cinecon later issued a separate Facebook announcement focused specifically on Eden’s scheduled appearance that night. The festival described her condition as a “sudden illness” and confirmed that she had canceled at the last minute.

According to organizers, Eden deeply regretted missing the event. She had been looking forward to seeing those attending and joining the celebration surrounding her Cinecon honor.

The cancellation did not stop the festival from recognizing her. Cinecon kept the screening of “All Hands on Deck” on the program and arranged for Eden’s co-star Boone to accept the Legacy Award on her behalf after the film.

Boone also agreed to remain at the theater afterward to sign autographs, allowing the evening’s planned celebration of the 1961 film to continue despite Eden’s absence.

Authorities converged on the neighborhood of Annie Guthrie, the sister of “TODAY” host Savannah Guthrie, just hours after releasing photos of a possible suspect tied to their mother’s disappearance.

Officials with the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were seen searching the area and knocking on doors on Tuesday, February 10.

The activity came shortly after officials made public images of what they described as an “armed” figure potentially connected to the case.

A Neighborhood Under Scrutiny

Law enforcement officers were first spotted at the home of Annie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, late on February 7.

That visit happened just hours after Annie and her siblings, Savannah and Camron Guthrie, shared a new video message addressed to their mother’s potential captor.

Annie’s property sits about four miles from Nancy Guthrie’s longtime Tucson home, the very place where authorities say she was taken in the middle of the night on January 31.

By Tuesday, investigators were back in the area, canvassing neighbors and seeking surveillance footage.

Tony Zaccagnini, 74, who lives nearby, said deputies approached him directly. “They didn’t ask for my phone number or nothing, but I got a camera set up around my property in the back and in the front,” Zaccagnini shared.

He added, “And they were there last week, asking to look at my cameras. We didn’t see nothing on it.”

Despite the visible activity by authorities, federal authorities are staying tight-lipped. “We’re not confirming anything at this time,” a Phoenix FBI spokesperson told People.

How the Search May Have Happened

Before officers searched Annie’s property, law enforcement would have needed legal clearance.

Tracy Walder, a former CIA and FBI special agent, said investigators “may have either asked Annie’s permission,” obtained a search warrant, or both.

That detail suggests the operation followed standard procedure, even as tensions remain high. Meanwhile, another development may point authorities closer to home.

A Tucson Connection?

According to TMZ, law enforcement sources believe the person responsible for Nancy’s abduction is likely from the Tucson area.

Multiple sources involved in the search told the outlet that notes sent after Nancy’s disappearance may contain clues about where the writer lives.

The first letter was reportedly sent to two Tucson TV stations and TMZ. The second went to just one Tucson station.

TMZ reports that authorities believe the writer was “very familiar with the local stations,” which has led to the working theory that the abductor lives in or near Tucson.

The outlet also reported that the individual promised to return Nancy to Tucson within 12 hours of receiving a six-million-dollar payment. That statement suggests the person holding her may be within a 700-mile radius of the city.

Two ransom deadlines have already passed.

Savannah publicly attempted to reach the payment and offered to pay the demand.

As of Wednesday, February 11, Nancy remains missing.

According to the outlet’s law enforcement sources, authorities were not holding onto the photos before releasing them.

The images show what officials described as an apparent suspect. Nancy was taken against her will on February 1.

Authorities have said she has a pacemaker and requires daily medication, raising the urgency of the search.
