Travis Barker had received an unsettling warning from his young daughter before boarding a flight in 2008 that ended in tragedy. He and one friend emerged as the only survivors, and as Barker dealt with the loss and what he had endured, some of his tattoos became permanent reminders of both.

The Plane Crash That Changed Travis Barker’s Life

In September 2008, Barker and his friend, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, had just performed in Columbia, South Carolina, and planned to return to Los Angeles.

Joining them aboard the twin-engine Learjet were Barker’s assistant, Chris “Lil Chris” Baker, his bodyguard, Charles “Che” Still, and co-pilots Sarah Lemmon and James Bland. Police Contain the Chaos Within Minutes

According to TMZ, Seminole Police said the shooting took place in the valet area outside the casino shortly after 7 p.m.

The incident resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to an individual who was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

Police said officers were “on site immediately” and that “the situation was contained quickly.” Two individuals were detained, and authorities confirmed the scene is secure, with no threat to the public and normal operations continuing.

Inside the casino, however, the immediate aftermath appeared far more chaotic.

Videos from the scene showed panic spreading among casino-goers as people moved quickly through the entrance area. In one moment, a man was seen lying on the floor while a law enforcement officer attended to him.

Nearby, another individual appeared to be restrained by security. The person was seen speaking to the man on the ground as an officer attempted to calm him before guiding him away.

Police vehicles with flashing lights surrounded the entrance as bystanders watched the situation unfold.

Witnesses Describe the Moment

Witnesses who spoke to the same publication said Offset had been inside the casino around 7:10 p.m., standing near an exit and looking out toward the valet area while talking on his phone.

Images from the scene showed the rapper dressed casually in a cap, dark T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers as he moved through the casino floor. During that time, fans approached him, and he welcomed the interaction.

He shook hands, posed for photos, and chatted briefly with supporters without hesitation. He also smiled and flashed a peace sign. He reportedly appeared relaxed and friendly with no indication that anything was wrong.

Moments later, Offset’s team confirmed he had been shot.

Offset’s representative confirmed to TMZ that the rapper was hospitalized following the incident.

Police said the shooting followed an argument among a group gathered outside after the event ended. Many people fled the scene, prompting investigators to urge witnesses to come forward.

Sgt. Michael Arrington of the Houston Police Department’s homicide division said:

Three women in Longview, Texas, are facing assault charges after police say a young woman was jumped in a nightclub parking lot, and investigators believe the attack may be tied to the anger still surrounding one of the most talked-about criminal cases in the country this year.

What Happened in the Whiskey J’s Parking Lot?

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WFAA, a security worker at Whiskey J’s, located at 300 TX-63 Spur, noticed a large crowd forming in the parking lot in the early hours of June 21, 2026.

Moments later, he watched college student Sammie Lee walk through the same area before a group of women descended on her.

Lee had gone out for drinks with her best friend that night and said the two had no issues at all while inside the bar. It was only once they were walking back to their car that the situation turned violent, according to her own account posted on Facebook.

The security worker stepped in and pulled Lee away from the crowd, according to the affidavit. Court documents say she suffered injuries to the back of her head and her right eye during the attack.

On social media, Lee later posted her story, warning followers before sharing photos of her injuries. She wrote that she never spoke to or looked at the women who attacked her and had no idea who they were.

She described being “jumped by a group of random girls” and ending up with a black eye and staples in her head after bleeding from the back of her scalp and her face.

What Did Witnesses Say They Heard Before the Attack?

This is where the case takes a sharper turn. The security guard told investigators he heard someone in the crowd say, “The next white [expletive] that walks out, I’m going to hit her,” just before Lee walked past, according to the affidavit.

A second witness, who said he had no connection to Lee or the group of women, told police he heard someone yell, “Any white girl can get it,” followed by “Free Karmelo” right before the attack began.

Who Are the Women Charged, and How Did Police Connect Them to the Case?

Police identified the suspects as Ciarrianne Fuller of Longview, Dejae Brown of Pittsburg, and Alana Mumphrey of Longview, all in their 20s.

Each has been charged with assault causing bodily injury in connection with the parking lot attack, and Lee later told investigators she recognized all three as the women who assaulted her.

Investigators also said that the victim helped identify the suspects by pointing them to social media accounts connected to the attack.

Additionally, detectives found a post from Brown dated June 10, days before the assault, that read, “takin fades for Karmelo all day today, MOBILE [sic],” which police described as a phrase referring to deliberately seeking out a physical confrontation.

During the investigation, authorities even recovered a text message thread containing a video of the assault that had already been circulating online. In that thread, one of the suspects reportedly wrote, “We shouldn’t have done that [expletive] bro.”

Adding an unusual wrinkle to the case, the affidavit notes that an officer assisting with the investigation recognized two of the suspects as former classmates of the officer’s own siblings.

What Is the Motivation Police Are Investigating?

The phrase “Free Karmelo,” allegedly shouted before the attack, appears to reference Karmelo Anthony, who was recently sentenced to 35 years in prison for the 2025 stabbing death of Austin Metcalf at a Frisco track meet. This case has rocked the nation, with many taking Anthony’s side despite the trial verdict.

During a June 24 news conference, Longview police spokesperson LaDarian Brown said the department was aware of social media posts discussing possible retaliation connected to the case.

He said those claims are being taken seriously, though there is currently no information suggesting a broader threat to public safety.

The spokesperson said the department is in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and urged the public not to spread unverified information online. He asked anyone with information related to the case to come forward.

“We cannot allow rumors to outrun facts, and we cannot allow fear to do more damage than the incident itself,” he added. Police also said the investigation into the assault remains ongoing.

According to TMZ, the case has drawn attention well beyond Longview because of its apparent ties to the Anthony case, even though the attack itself took place hundreds of miles away and had no direct connection to the original crime.

But what happened that caused such a reaction? As previously reported, on June 9, 2026, a Collin County jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder and sentenced him to over three decades in prison for the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf.

The verdict closed a case that had gripped the country for more than a year — but for both families, nothing about that day felt like an ending. On one side of the courtroom, one mother hoped that her son would be accompanying her home.

On the other side, another mother told the boy who killed her son that whatever years he served, she had drawn the longer sentence. Two mothers were grieving, but Kayla Hayes’ son was alive, and Meghan Metcalf’s wasn’t.

A Rainy Day That Turned Fatal

The events that led to the sentencing began on April 2, 2025, at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, during a high school track-and-field competition. A rain delay pushed competitors and spectators under whatever shelter they could find.

Karmelo Anthony, then 17 and a student at a rival school, sat beneath a tent that did not belong to him. The Memorial High School track team had claimed it, and the rules of a high school meet are not complicated: you sit under your own team’s cover.

Twins Hunter and Austin Metcalf and others asked him repeatedly to leave. He refused. What happened in the next few seconds is what the jury would replay over and over.

The confrontation escalated until Karmelo told Austin, “Touch me and see what happens,” keeping one hand hidden inside his backpack. When Austin pushed him, Karmelo pulled a knife and stabbed him once in the chest. Austin did not survive the injury.

The Trial

Austin’s Mother Speaks

When Meghan Metcalf rose to deliver her victim impact statement, the courtroom fell silent. She described a household now changed beyond recognition — mornings without her son, a bedroom he will never return to.

“Going into an empty room, empty bed, and once again remembering Austin is dead.” She spoke about conversations that can no longer happen the way they used to.

“Now my conversations with him are one-sided, sitting at his grave. … I have to accept that instead of walking beside me, he’s walking above me.”

On Monday, August 31, 2026, NYPD officers fatally shot Pamela Cisneros, from Queens, after police said she stabbed two strangers near Times Square, killing one and injuring another.

The attack claimed the life of Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old Bank of America vice president, and left a 68-year-old man hospitalized. As her relatives began piecing together what happened, they described a woman with a difficult history who had seemed to be doing better for years.

The Times Square Attack Unfolded in Minutes

According to ABC7 New York’s report on the incident, Pamela was near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue at about 4:26 p.m. when police said she attacked two people with knives.

The first victim was a 68-year-old man who had just exited the subway and was waiting with his wife to cross the street. Police said Pamela pulled two knives from a bag, waved them, and stabbed him in the abdomen in what authorities described as a random and unprovoked attack.

The man was from Rhode Island and was believed to be visiting family in New York, according to ABC7 New York. His next-door neighbor, August DiMartino, said the violence was particularly unsettling because it happened to someone from his own community.

“Absolutely terrible, to just find out that something that horrible can happen to somebody that close to you really makes the community seem vulnerable,” August said.

But the attack was not over. Pamela then continued north along Seventh Avenue. About 20 seconds later, police said, she approached Erin, who was walking near 42nd Street, and stabbed her in the abdomen.

Erin was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she died. The 68-year-old man’s family later told ABC7 that “he seems fine.” He was released from Bellevue Hospital Tuesday afternoon.

After the second stabbing, Pamela continued toward the NYPD substation in Times Square while still carrying both knives.

Police Said Pamela Refused to Drop the Knives

Officers confronted her and repeatedly ordered her to put the weapons down. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the encounter lasted about four minutes.

Pamela refused to comply. “I’m not dropping anything. I would rather kill both of you,” Pamela told officers, according to Tisch. Officers deployed Tasers twice, but police said they appeared to have no effect. Pamela continued advancing toward the officers, and two officers fired their service weapons.

She was taken to Bellevue Hospital and pronounced dead.

Police said Pamela had a “documented mental health history” involving contacts with the NYPD in 2018 and 2019. Authorities also said she had no criminal history and described her as emotionally disturbed.

The police shooting is subject to an internal investigation, while Tisch and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani defended the officers‘ use of lethal force.

Her Brother First Realized It Might Be Pamela

While the police response was unfolding, Pamela’s family had no immediate understanding that the woman in the news was their relative. Her brother, Patrick Peralta, 59, said he learned what had happened after seeing video footage of the confrontation on the news.

In an exclusive Gothamist interview about Pamela’s mental-health struggles and the family’s efforts to understand what happened, Patrick said he initially could not be certain the woman on screen was his sister.

“The first thing in my head was, ‘Oh, no. Is that my sister?’ But then I wasn’t sure. I was hoping it wasn’t her,” Patrick said. More pictures eventually appeared. “But then more pictures went out, and then when I saw a frontal picture, I knew it was her,” he said.

For Patrick, the realization was difficult partly because he said he had never known Pamela to become violent because of her mental-health struggles.

Pamela Had Faced Mental-Health Struggles for Years

Patrick said Pamela’s mental-health problems began more than two decades ago, after the birth of her second daughter. He described what he believed were postpartum depression and bipolar disorder, saying she had been under considerable stress while raising her children.

After the birth of her third daughter, Pamela divorced her husband and moved to Florida with her children, Patrick said. She eventually returned to New York with her second daughter, who was enrolled in a full-time care home in Brooklyn.

Pamela attempted suicide in 2019, according to Patrick. But after that period, he said, her family saw a significant improvement.

Her Family Believed She Had Been Doing Well

Patrick said Pamela’s mental health appeared to improve with medication after 2019. “She was doing well, like for the last four years, five years. She was getting injections. She was never aggressive,” Patrick said.

Pamela lived alone in Woodside and worked on and off with an attorney who specialized in immigration cases. She was also a regular presence at her mother’s home. “She used to come and have dinner, and my mother and my stepfather cooked for her, mainly almost every afternoon and weekends,” Patrick said.

That routine was part of what made the events of late August so difficult for her family to comprehend. Patrick last saw Pamela in early August at a birthday gathering for their stepfather, which Pamela had helped organize. He did not see her again before the attack.

Then Pamela Stopped Showing Up

The family’s concern began with something seemingly ordinary: Pamela stopped coming over. Patrick said she normally visited their mother and stepfather regularly, but she did not come at all during the week before the attack.

“It was weird because she didn’t come at all last week, and we were trying to call her,” Patrick said. The family tried to reach her, but they did not know what was happening. Then, on Saturday, Pamela’s mother spoke with her.

“My sister called her, and then my mother talked to her Saturday, and she said she was fine.”

It was two days before the Times Square stabbings.

Her Father Confirmed She Was Receiving Injections

Pamela’s father, Mario, also spoke about her treatment in an interview with ABC7 New York. “I knew my daughter very well,” he said, “but I didn’t know what was going on with her. What I do know is she was getting injections.”

Mario said he struggled to understand what had happened. “I don’t understand,” he says, “because the situation reversed.” “What she did, it doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t click,” he added.

His comments echoed Patrick’s description of a woman whose family believed had been doing well before the events in Times Square.

Patrick Described It as a Sudden Change

After watching part of the video of Pamela’s confrontation with police, Patrick said he was unsure what officers could have done differently once the situation had reached that point.

“When it gets to that point, it’s kinda late … to talk to a person, you know?” he said. But when asked, in effect, how Pamela could have gone from years of apparent stability to what happened in Times Square, Patrick could only describe the change as abrupt.

“It was like a switch, and I don’t know what happened in her mind,” he said. Pamela’s mother, Maria, also questioned the police response. “There were so many police. Why didn’t they grab her by the arm?” she asked, according to Fox 5 New York’s report.

A Taser Expert Explained Why the Devices May Have Failed

The questions about the police response came as more details emerged about the failed attempts to stop Pamela with Tasers. Retired NYPD detective and Taser expert Artur Sadowski told the New York Post that Tasers require both probes to make effective contact and complete an electrical circuit that can temporarily disrupt muscle control.

According to Artur’s assessment, one probe struck the purse wrapped around Pamela’s body, while another appeared to hit her stomach. “She may have felt pain or muscle cramping in her abdomen but not enough to stop her from advancing,” Artur said.

Police ultimately said two officers fired their guns after the Tasers failed to stop Pamela as she continued advancing with the knives.
