Who Was Jonathan McKinsey? The New York Times Games Engineering Director’s Career, Three Children, and Family Life, Including a Custody Dispute – Details & Photos

Behind the headlines surrounding his final days was a life filled with ambitious career moves, deeply personal family ties, and moments shared online that now feel especially poignant. Some of the most revealing details were hiding in plain sight long before tragedy struck.

Jonathan McKinsey’s name became tied to a shocking East Bay tragedy in the final days of September 2026. But away from the circumstances of his death was a nearly two-decade technology career, a passion for teaching, three children, and personal posts that now carry an entirely different weight.

Among the glimpses he left behind is one particularly poignant family message — written just weeks before his death.

Jonathan McKinsey’s Life Was Taken at a California Park

McKinsey, 40, was fatally shot on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Dublin Sports Grounds in Dublin, California. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, police and witnesses found him with multiple gunshot wounds shortly after 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the city park, which sits beside Dublin’s police department and library.

Video shared with the outlet reportedly showed McKinsey lying behind the open trunk of a car, with blood visible around his head. He was pronounced dead in the parking lot. Witness Assad Razawi told the outlet that he heard five or six gunshots before seeing McKinsey fall. Razawi said a man and woman he believed were connected to the shooting then walked away at a normal pace.

Authorities arrested two suspects just outside the park minutes later, as the suspects reportedly fully complied with police orders. Authorities identified them as 76-year-old Shouyong Zhang and 76-year-old Shili Chen, a married couple who police said were McKinsey’s mother- and father-in-law.

They were arrested on suspicion of murder, child endangerment, and conspiring to commit a crime and were being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail. An arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday, while the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office said it was reviewing the investigation. Dublin police thanked witnesses and other community members, saying their cooperation was “critical to the swift arrest of the suspects.”

Authorities had not announced a motive as of Monday afternoon. That unanswered question is especially significant because, behind the scenes, McKinsey and his wife had spent months locked in an increasingly contentious family dispute.

He Was a Director of Engineering for the New York Times Games

At the time of his death, McKinsey was Director of Engineering, Games Player Experience at The New York Times. His LinkedIn profile presented a career spanning close to 20 years across software engineering, product strategy, management, education, and engineering leadership.

In his “About” section, McKinsey wrote that he had nearly two decades of experience in hands-on technical positions involving software engineering and product strategy. He also said he had more than eight years of people-management experience. His recent New York Times position began in December 2025.

According to the profile, McKinsey led a multidisciplinary engineering organization made up of 22 engineers and three engineering managers across three teams, including front-end, full-stack, backend, iOS, and Android engineers. Before becoming director, his profile listed him as Senior Engineering Manager for Games Player Experience from January to December 2025.

It also listed a previous role as Senior Engineering Manager for Games Platform beginning in January 2023, where he said he led a front-end web and backend API platform engineering organization consisting of 17 engineers and one engineering manager. His approach to leadership appeared to extend beyond job titles.

McKinsey wrote that he believed a leader’s job was to build an environment in which team members could “bring their whole selves to work and thrive.” He also emphasized transparency, shared leadership, experimentation, and giving people credit for their work. As an engineering leader, he said he pushed teams to build sustainable products while considering testability, maintainability, observability, and security upfront.

His Career Included Splunk, UKG, Coursera, Oracle, and More

McKinsey’s professional path stretched well beyond The New York Times. From July 2021 until January 2023, he worked as an Engineering Manager at Splunk. Before that, he spent more than three years with UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group). His profile listed him first as a Staff Software Engineer from February 2018 to January 2019 and later as an Engineering Manager from January 2019 through July 2021.

During that period, he also co-founded McKinsey Learn, a self-employed venture that his profile listed from January 2019 until December 2020. Before UKG, McKinsey spent nearly two years at Coursera as a Product Strategy Manager, from April 2016 through February 2018. He previously worked at Oracle as a Senior Software Engineer from January 2015 until April 2016.

Earlier still, McKinsey worked for Hewlett Packard Enterprise as a Systems Software Engineer II between November 2010 and April 2014. But his professional history started even before that. While attending Georgia Tech, he served as a Head Teaching Assistant from May 2006 until March 2010. He also spent more than two years as a Software Engineer intern at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, from January 2007 through August 2009.

Education and Teaching Were a Major Part of His Life

McKinsey earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology, attending from August 2005 through May 2010 and graduating with honors. His listed activities included serving as a College of Computing Ambassador, College of Computing Mentor, Freshman Seminar Peer Leader, and FASET Freshman Orientation Leader.

He later earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, studying there from August 2013 until May 2015. An older professional biography from his time at Ultimate Software described McKinsey as someone deeply interested in the intersection of computer science and education.

The bio said his master’s studies focused on that intersection, particularly massive open online courses. It also described his enthusiasm for teaching technology to a broad range of people, from providing digital-literacy education to senior citizens to teaching programming to underrepresented minorities.

McKinsey was said to be especially interested in issues affecting disadvantaged populations. And amid all the technical accomplishments, the bio included a far more personal detail: in his spare time, he enjoyed cooking for his family.

Jonathan McKinsey and Candice Jang Had Three Children

That family eventually became central to a painful legal battle. Public records cited by the Chronicle showed that McKinsey and Candice Jang married in Harris County, Texas, in 2011. The couple had three young children.

By late 2025, however, their marriage had broken down into competing allegations of domestic abuse, restraining-order petitions, criminal proceedings, divorce litigation, and a dispute over how much time McKinsey could spend with the children. The Mercury News reported that the custody case was scheduled to return to court on Friday, October 2.

McKinsey had petitioned for divorce in December 2025. As recently as late August 2026, he was asking the court to expand his visitation. “I miss our children deeply and am pleading with this court to allow me more time with them, and potentially unsupervised time with the children,” McKinsey wrote in one filing, according to the outlet.

At that point, his visits were being supervised, and he was seeking to have that requirement removed. Jang opposed that request, writing in her own filing that McKinsey “has proven that he is incapable of controlling his anger and his abuse of our children when left with the children unsupervised.” Those remaining allegations were being argued through the courts.

Both Spouses Made Serious Allegations Against Each Other

The custody battle did not involve accusations from only one side. Jang had obtained a domestic violence prevention order after filing for one in October 2025. According to court records cited by the Chronicle, she alleged that McKinsey had physically, verbally, and emotionally abused her and their children for years.

Her filing reportedly described more than a dozen alleged incidents occurring between November 2020 and July 2025. One such incident reportedly involved a claim that McKinsey had struck her six-year-old son in the face with an open hand.

In another alleged incident, Jang said McKinsey pushed their son in February 2022 when he thought the child was playing too rough with his sister, which resulted in injuries. Jang also told investigators about a separate alleged 2018 incident in which she said McKinsey grabbed her arm and left a bruise, and said he had emotionally abused her mother.

Jang wrote, “The abuse that happened over the past 17 years has caused permanent damage to my mental health and physical health.” She continued, “I would like a restraining order to protect myself and my three children, as well as my mother from future abuse.”

McKinsey faced two misdemeanor charges in Alameda County involving alleged child abuse: cruelty to a child by endangering health and corporal injury to a child. The Chronicle reported that a deputy’s declaration said authorities had also once found a two-year-old child unattended in an upstairs bedroom after McKinsey allegedly left to go shopping.

McKinsey pleaded not guilty and had been released from jail subject to conditions that included completing 12 parenting classes, according to the Chronicle.

The Mercury News additionally reported that he had been released on $50,000 bail and was attempting to enter a mental health diversion program. Successful completion would have resulted in the charges being dismissed.

McKinsey Also Accused His Wife and In-Laws of Abuse

McKinsey disputed Jang’s account. In December 2025, he sought a restraining order of his own and alleged that Jang had abused him over a period stretching back more than 15 years. His allegations included a claim that Jang struck him with a frying pan in 2013 and that she verbally denigrated their children.

He also made allegations involving Jang’s parents. McKinsey was transgender, and according to court documents cited by the Mercury News, he alleged in his petition that Jang’s mother, Chen, had directed very harsh anti-LGBTQ+ slurs toward him and one of the children. McKinsey also alleged that Jang mistreated him while he was undergoing medical procedures connected to his transition.

In one allegation, he claimed she tried to pull medical tubes from his body after a procedure. McKinsey further alleged that Jang’s father injured his chest while he was recovering from double mastectomy surgery. These claims, like Jang’s accusations against McKinsey, were allegations contained in court filings.

Authorities had not established that the marital dispute, custody proceedings, or abuse allegations were the motive for McKinsey’s killing.

He Had Recently Moved Away from the Family Home

Neighbors later described a family situation that appeared to have changed considerably in the months before McKinsey’s death. One neighbor told the Chronicle that McKinsey had recently moved out of the home he once shared with Jang and their three children. Another neighbor said a detective came to her door looking for information on the night after the shooting.

Residents described their Dublin community as generally quiet and safe, though some said neighbors often kept to themselves. A woman who described herself as a friend of Jang’s was seen arriving at the home Sunday evening to sit with the family. Meanwhile, the sports grounds roughly two miles away still showed remnants of crime-scene tape.

Years Earlier, McKinsey Wrote About Welcoming a Daughter

One older post provides another personal glimpse into how McKinsey publicly spoke about his family. In a 2021 LinkedIn post, McKinsey reacted to the anti-Asian spa shootings in Atlanta, writing that the attack saddened him but had not surprised him. He explained that he had grown up in Atlanta for most of his life and attended college there.

“America has a problem with race,” he wrote. “We need to confront this reality together and address it.” Then came a deeply personal detail: McKinsey said that two weeks after the shootings, he and his wife welcomed a “new little mixed Asian girl” into the world.

“My daughter wasn’t breathing and I saw people of all colors rushing to help her,” he wrote. “America is just like my little girl. I’m calling on all of you to save America.” He ended the post by arguing that while people cannot control the color of their skin, they can control their actions, adding, “Let’s celebrate our differences instead of fearing them.”

A Rare Recent Photo Showed McKinsey Smiling in What Became His Last Post

Then there is one of McKinsey’s more recent public images. On September 8, 2026 — less than three weeks before his death — a Facebook account bearing his name updated its profile picture. The image, which became his last post, showed McKinsey smiling during what appeared to be a casual outing. But underneath that photo was something far more personal.

Beneath the Facebook photo, a commenter identified as William Finney II left McKinsey a message about his parents, his wife, and his children.

The message read:

“Jon, hope everything is going well. Hope you can visit us when you have some free time. Mom and Dad love you so much and miss you. Hope everything goes well with you and Candice and the kids.”

Seen in isolation, it was simply a parent checking in; seen after McKinsey’s death — and against the backdrop of the divorce, custody fight, and legal proceedings that had consumed much of his final year — the words offer a quiet glimpse at the family relationships surrounding a much more complicated public story.

McKinsey’s professional pages documented titles, teams, degrees, and almost 20 years of work in technology. His personal posts revealed something less formal: a father talking about his daughter, a man who once said he loved cooking for his family, and, finally, a son whose parents were telling him that they loved and missed him.

One Post Stood Out Among All the Updates Bonnie Tyler’s Family Shared Before Her Passing

The beloved voice behind one of the biggest power ballads in music history spent weeks fighting for her life in a hospital far from home, and one message from her family gave millions of fans a reason to believe she would make it.

Bonnie Tyler’s health crisis played out over more than two months in 2026, with her family posting a series of updates from Faro, Portugal, before announcing her death on July 9. Buried in that timeline was a message from June 15 that, for a brief moment, felt like the turning point everyone had been waiting for.

A Sudden Hospitalization Sparks Concern

On May 6, 2026, Tyler’s official Facebook page revealed she had been admitted to a hospital in Faro, where she and her husband kept a home, for emergency intestinal surgery. The family said the procedure went well and that Tyler was recuperating, though the update was enough to worry fans across the world.

Two days later, the news took a far more serious turn. A follow-up message explained that doctors had placed the singer into an induced coma to help her body recover. Her family thanked fans for the wave of support and asked for privacy while she remained in that state.

By May 12, Tyler was still critically ill but stable, and her family said doctors remained hopeful about a full recovery. That same update took direct aim at the press, addressing what the family called lurid and untrue rumors circulating at the time.

The statement specifically clarified that a man named Liberto Mealha did not speak for the family in any capacity and was not in contact with them about Tyler’s condition. The family asked the media to stop speculating, saying the rumors were only adding pain for those who loved her.

A Message That Finally Offered Hope

Weeks passed with no further word, and then on June 15, Tyler’s family shared news that felt like a breakthrough. They wrote that she had woken from the induced coma, though she remained gravely ill and under intensive care.

The family added that Tyler was aware of the outpouring of love from fans around the globe and was grateful for every message. It would be the last update anyone heard from her camp before the news that came a few weeks later.

That post drew an outpouring of emotional reactions from people who had followed Tyler’s career for decades. On Facebook, fans wrote messages ranging from nostalgic to worried, all hoping she would recover.

One person shared, “OMG what am emotional moment , I just run into this wonderful song, Total Eclipse of the heart in X that brings me wonderful memories , then I searched it in Youtube for the son. My best wishes for You Bonnie , I hope You are recovering and feeling well [sic]!” Another simply wrote, “Heartbroken. 😢”

Others expressed confusion and concern over what had happened to her. “What is wrong with her ?” one fan asked, while another wrote, “That’s must be a Heartache, hope she turns around 😎[sic].” A fifth comment read, “Poor Bonnie hope U recovery soon and feel better soon[sic].”

The News Fans Had Been Dreading

For weeks after the June 15 update, there was silence. Then, on July 9, 2026, Tyler’s family shared the news no one wanted to read.

The announcement said Tyler had unexpectedly passed away the previous night in the same Portuguese hospital where she had been fighting her illness. Her family called it a “tragedy” and asked for privacy as they processed the loss, promising a further statement would follow.

A Career Built on One of Music’s Biggest Hits

Tyler was born Gaynor Hopkins on June 8, 1951, in Skewen, a small village near Neath, Wales. According to her IMDb bio, she broke through in 1976 with “Lost in France,” which cracked the UK top 10, and her raspy, distinctive voice developed after a throat operation.

She scored a transatlantic top 5 hit with “It’s a Heartache” in 1978, but her biggest moment came in 1983 with Jim Steinman’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” which made her the first Welsh singer to hit number one on both sides of the Atlantic and earned her a Grammy nomination. The song’s parent album, “Faster Than the Speed of Night,” also debuted at number one on the UK Album chart.

She followed that with “Holding Out for a Hero” in 1985, from the “Footloose” soundtrack, and later took “Total Eclipse of the Heart” to number one in France after recording a French-language version in 2004.

Over the following decades, she toured internationally, including alongside Meat Loaf, and even performed at Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ wedding.

In a 2012 interview with the Guardian, Tyler opened up about growing up as one of seven children in a four-bedroom council house, with her grandparents living just across the road. She described a close-knit, trusting community where doors were left unlocked, and neighbors looked out for one another.

She married her husband, Robert Sullivan, in 1973 after four years of dating, and the couple remained together for decades afterward.

Tyler shared that the pair had wanted children but experienced a miscarriage in her late 30s and were ultimately unable to have their own family, though she said she found fulfillment through her many godchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

Bonnie Tyler also reflected on her mother, Elsie, who died of Alzheimer’s at 80. Tyler credited much of her drive to her mother’s advice to believe in yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you, a philosophy she carried through a career that spanned five decades.

Shakira, 49, Shows Off Her Famous Curves in a Red Fringe Bikini in Miami — but Fans Can’t Agree on One Thing — Photos

The pop icon just proved that a bikini, a bay, and a bit of sunshine are all it takes to get an entire comments section talking at once.

Shakira, 49, spent part of this week soaking up the sun on the water in Miami Beach, Florida, wearing a red fringe bikini that showed off her famous curves.

The outing landed days before her tour picks back up and just ahead of a worldwide stage that has just added a brand new artist, but people couldn’t stop commenting on her face.

A Red Bikini and a Dip in the Bay

Shakira spent an afternoon on the dock outside her Miami home, and the photos, released on July 7, 2026, show exactly why fans can’t stop talking about her. The Colombian singer wore an all-red look, with a fringed bikini top and bottom paired with a matching short skirt.

She topped off the outfit with a pair of polarized sunglasses before wading into the bay for a swim. Once she climbed back out, she grabbed a hose to rinse off, chatting with someone off-camera the entire time.

But many others online simply focused on her body and how natural she looks at 49. | Source: Instagram/tmztv

Fans Weigh In on Her Look

The comments section did what comments sections do, and split almost immediately. Plenty of people showed up simply to gush over how she looked at 49.

“A beautiful woman with a beautiful body and soul. 🤩🤩🤩 The best of all celebrities.🥰🥰🥰 She has such a gorgeous body and face at the age of 49 without a single plastic surgery.🔥🔥🔥🔥🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩” one person wrote on Instagram, while another kept it simple:

“Very beautiful for her age 😍.”

A third added, “She looks amazing.” But under the bikini photos themselves, the conversation took a different turn. “Those hips don’t lie ❤️,” one commenter wrote, echoing her own lyrics, while another admitted, “Ok she’s pretty but I think she’s touching her face a lot😳.”

From there, the debate picked up steam. “She looks different in the face,” one person observed, and another went further, “She’s starting to look a little plastic. She’s so gorgeous without cosmetic procedures.”

Someone else mourned the change outright, “Nooooo…..she got fillers…she was so beautiful before,” while another pointed to the photos themselves as the culprit: “Without all the filters and Photoshop, yeah…. she looks different 😳😬.”

Not everyone agreed with that read. “She looks super good for her age 🔥 and it’s worth noting that it’s a natural body,” one fan countered.

Over on Facebook, the tone shifted back to pure praise. “Body goalsssss [sic],” one commenter wrote under the reel, and another simply said, “Always she looks gorgeous!”

A Halftime Slot 20 Years in the Making

While fans debated her look online, Shakira has had bigger things on her mind, namely, the biggest stage of her career: the World Cup. The photos came out just before Colombia faced Switzerland in the round of 16, a match that ended in a heartbreaking elimination for the South American team.

Argentina is now the only Latin American country left standing in the tournament. Meanwhile, the singer’s connection to this event goes back two decades, and she has said it changed the course of her life.

Although “Hips Don’t Lie” was a huge hit and she performed a remix at the 2006 closing ceremony, it wasn’t an official World Cup song. Shakira sang her first, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” at the 2010 tournament.

This happened to be the same event where she met her former partner, retired Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué. The two went on to have sons Milan, now 13, and Sasha, 11, before splitting in recent years amid his alleged infidelity.

During a recent interview for People at a Manhattan studio, the singer reflected on everything she has weathered. She said, “I always thought that I was more fragile or weaker than what life proved me to be.”

She credits that stretch of her life with teaching her something she now repeats often. “Behind every experience in life, there’s always a lesson, and we have to be grateful for all those lessons, even for the people that leave you with scars,” she said, “because they just make us better.”

In the decades since her debut, Shakira has sold more than 95 million records worldwide, making her the bestselling female Latin artist of all time, while helping pave the way for stars like Bad Bunny and Karol G.

“I had to really fight for my dreams,” she said. Looking back on her younger self, she added, “I would say to that girl back in her 20s to enjoy more, to believe in herself more. I think women, as time goes by, we just acquire this new confidence. Even though we don’t look as perfect as in our 20s, it’s beautiful to just be yourself and accept who you are.”

Now she is preparing to co-headline the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final halftime show, a milestone that arrives alongside her new single with Nigerian singer Burna Boy, “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official song. She is donating all of her royalties from the track to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.

She has described her bond with the tournament as something that runs deeper than any one performance. “I have this connection with [soccer] that seems unbreakable,” she said, adding that this year’s show carries extra weight given the state of the world.

“Every World Cup is really magical, and I think this one is going to be all about bringing people together in this very sensitive moment in time, socially and politically.”

Her sons will be along for the ride too. Shakira kicked off the U.S. leg of her tour on June 13, with Milan and Sasha in tow, and she has shown no signs of slowing down. “You know what’s strange? I’ve done this professionally 30 years already,” she said, “and it feels to me like I’m just starting.”

Five Artists, One Stage, One World Cup Final

The halftime show itself is shaping up to be unlike anything the tournament has done before. On July 8, 2026, FIFA and Global Citizen confirmed that Justin Bieber will join Shakira, Madonna and BTS as co-headliners for the 11-minute performance at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19.

Burna Boy, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and the Webby Award-winning PS 22 Chorus featuring Coldplay will also take part, with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin curating the entire show.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino tied the lineup back to the tournament’s broader mission, noting that the performance would help fund education and football access for children around the world.

Speaking on “The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill” the day after the announcement, Shakira admitted she is still figuring out exactly how the moment will come together.

“I played at the inauguration, and now I’m playing at the final,” she said in the interview. “I’ve got to wrap my head around it, make it a little different from what I did at the inauguration.”

She also made clear that this will be a group effort rather than a solo spotlight. “It’s going to be a shared halftime show,” she said. “It’s going to be pretty historic, five amazing artists. Well, four amazing artists plus me.” She added that she is hoping Martin steps out from behind the scenes for at least part of it.

But even the singer, who has spent three decades on some of the world’s biggest stages, sounds genuinely unsure of what July 19 will look like. “We’ll all get together and we’ll all figure it out how it’s gonna be, but I’m really curious,” she said. “I’m as curious as you are right now!”

Between the bikini photos, the fan debate, and a World Cup Final performance still coming together behind the scenes, Shakira has managed to stay the center of attention in more ways than one this week.

Lara Trump Shares Summer Photo Set — but It’s One Snap with Eric That Has Fans Talking — Photos

The Fox News host shared a cheerful glimpse of summer, but one couple’s pose quickly became the collection’s biggest talking point.

Lara Trump posted the family-centered roundup on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, featuring her husband, Eric Trump, and their children, Eric “Luke” Trump and Carolina Dorothy Trump. Yet the opening image showed Eric holding Lara in a way that looked less like an ordinary embrace the longer followers studied it.

Some netizens were amused by their pose in this photo, but others were concerned. | Source: Instagram/laraleatrump

A Relaxed Summer Album With One Curious Detail

Lara kept her caption simple, writing, “Lately 🥰” alongside the carousel of recent memories.

One picture showed her smiling with two friends as they held refreshing-looking drinks. Another captured Lara enjoying one of her favorite activities, horseback riding, while additional images featured Luke and Carolina.

The opening photograph commanded the most attention. Lara stood directly in front of Eric while they both faced the same direction and smiled for the camera.

Eric wore a navy short-sleeved polo, white shorts, a light-colored belt, and a navy baseball cap with white lettering, while Lara chose a flowing white maxi dress covered in bold blue flowers. Red tie straps and delicate gold jewelry completed the look.

But the eye-catching detail was how they were holding each other. Eric had Lara close with both arms in a grip that some followers thought resembled a restraint. The pose appeared playful, but its unusual appearance soon inspired questions, jokes, and calls for him to loosen his hold.

Compliments Soon Gave Way to Questions

Several people responding on Instagram focused first on the couple’s appearance and Lara’s breezy dress. One admirer wrote, “Lovely couple!” Another added, “Attractive couple for sure!”

Lara’s outfit earned praise as well, with one person commenting, “I love the dress. Looks so cool and comfy.” Someone else appreciated the casual family update, writing, “thank you for being real❤️ [sic].”

The conversation soon shifted squarely to Eric’s grip. One commenter observed, “What a weird photo.” Another was much more direct: “Does he always hold you down like that????” One person turned the pose into a joke, writing, “That’s one way to have her stop checking her watch 😂.”

A concerned reaction simply read, “Eric let her go!” Others remained puzzled by the arrangement. One wrote, “Weird pose but okay [sic].” Another delivered the bluntest assessment: “Perhaps the weirdest pose ever.”

The couple’s smiles suggested a lighthearted moment, but Eric’s firm hold made the photograph hard for some followers to ignore.

Lara Returned to Television With Her Own Show

Lara’s casual family post arrived during a notable chapter in her television career. On February 22, 2025, she began hosting the Fox News weekend program “My View with Lara Trump,” which was scheduled to air on Saturdays at 9 p.m. Eastern.

The appointment placed a close relative of a sitting president in a prominent hosting position at a major television news network.

Her program was designed to combine analysis with interviews featuring influential guests while focusing on what Fox News described as the return of “common sense” to American life.

Lara already had years of television experience when she received the show. She previously worked as a producer for “Inside Edition” and served as an on-air Fox News contributor from March 2021 until December 2022.

Eric’s Career Also Keeps Him in Public View

He serves as executive vice president of The Trump Organization. According to his official biography, his work covers the company’s real estate, hospitality, golf, and blockchain ventures.

Additionally, Eric appeared as a boardroom adviser during seven seasons of NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice.” He also served as a senior adviser and national surrogate during his father’s three presidential campaigns.

The couple now live in Florida with Luke and Carolina. While their careers keep them tied to television, business, and politics, Lara’s summer photo set offered a more relaxed look at their family life.

She has previously shown how her children’s family time can overlap with the political world surrounding them. In 2025, she shared a picture of Luke and Carolina playing with their grandfather in the Oval Office, giving viewers another memorable glimpse of the children away from their Florida home.

The Instagram carousel captures their kids standing beside President Donald Trump. The eight-year-old boy appeared front and center in all the images, standing near the Resolute Desk in a tailored blue blazer layered over a light shirt.

His blond hair was neatly styled, but what immediately drew attention was the shell-style beaded necklace around his neck — youthful, summery, and casual against the formality of the space.

Carolina stood nearby, her long hair worn loose, dressed in warm-toned clothing that softens the scene visually. She looked relaxed and observant, taking in the moment without any sense of performance.

The president, seated behind the desk in his signature dark suit and red tie, leaned toward them, pointing down at a large layout on the desk in one photo, and kissing Luke’s head in another. His posture is engaged and attentive, more explanatory than authoritative. Lara kept her caption simple, penning sweetly, “Just being a grandpa. 🥹🥰.” It’s a small sentence, but it frames the entire moment.

As expected, the images quickly drew attention online, and the reactions split into two distinct camps.

Many viewers focused on how much the kids have grown. Commenters expressed amazement at how big Luke and Carolina were getting, how fast time seemed to move, and how closely they resembled their dad and grandfather.

But another thread of commentary took on a life of its own, zeroing in on one specific detail: Luke’s necklace. “It’s the shell necklace for me,” one commenter wrote. “What’s up with the necklace?” another asked.

“Is that a puka shell necklace?” someone else chimed in, while a fellow spectator wondered, “Whys [sic] the kid got a sparkly choker?”

This isn’t the first time Donald has been seen publicly in this role.

Earlier in 2025, he spent time golfing in Scotland with his grandchildren Spencer and Chloe Trump — the two youngest children of Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife Vanessa Trump — during a visit to Trump Turnberry.

Photos from the trip showed him driving the kids around the course in a golf cart and appearing to coach Chloe as she learned the game. Different setting. Same tone.

Whether inside the Oval Office or out on a golf course, the through line is presence. Not spectacle. Not performance. Just time spent together in spaces that usually demand something else entirely.

That same focus on family shaped Lara’s latest summer carousel, though this time a quiet moment between adults, rather than between a grandfather and his grandchildren, stole the spotlight.

Surrounded by easygoing snapshots of friends, horses, and the couple’s children, the opening image of Eric holding Lara tightly became the photograph viewers could not look past, turning what appeared to be a playful embrace into the defining and most debated moment of the collection.

Nicole Kidman, 59, Commands Attention on British Vogue’s September 2026 Cover in a Series of Jaw-Dropping Looks — Photos

The acclaimed actress dives into extravagant vintage glamour for her latest cover, but some viewers questioned whether styling alone explained her striking transformation.

Nicole Kidman appears on British Vogue’s September 2026 cover, unveiled alongside an interview published on August 13, 2026. The 59-year-old’s towering blonde hair and dark makeup created an almost unrecognizable effect for some fans, who soon began asking if something beyond the beauty look had changed.

A Beauty Look Designed to Be Seen And A Wardrobe With Its Own Personality

The cover reveal places Nicole’s beauty transformation front and center. Her eyes are surrounded by smoky shadow and thick black kohl, while softly lightened brows form a sharp contrast against her porcelain complexion.

Her lip color changes throughout the shoot, moving from muted nude-mauve shades to a deep berry tone. Each variation supports the same high-drama retro mood, giving the portraits a deliberately stylized finish rather than an everyday red-carpet look.

Then there is the hair, which refuses to play a supporting role. Nicole wears a massive blonde blowout with feathered pieces around her face, winged layers, and backcombed height inspired by the late 1970s and 1980s.

The volume adds a playful dose of excess, especially when paired with oversized sunglasses and richly textured clothing.

Meanwhile, her fashion combines country-club polish, equestrian references, and the eccentric confidence of inherited wealth. Riding breeches and knee-high leather boots appear alongside tweed skirt suits and pussy-bow blouses, creating the impression of an aristocratic wardrobe with a rebellious streak.

Nicole also slips into leopard print, lace, and a sheer gown edged with feathers. Red satin and sporty rugby color-blocking cut through the more traditional pieces, keeping the collection from feeling like a straightforward period homage.

Together, the outfits suggest a well-traveled matriarch posing at her private estate after returning from somewhere far more interesting. The styling is polished, theatrical, and just strange enough to make each image unpredictable.

After a closer video from the shoot appeared on Instagram, commenters openly questioned whether Nicole looked different. The response was direct, with little attention paid to how heavily the shoot relied on transformative makeup and styling.

One person wrote, “Is this for real ?!??!! Yikes [sic].” Another added, “She changed her face again.“

The remarks offered no evidence for their assumptions, and Nicole has not been quoted responding to them. Her lightened brows, dense eye makeup, shifting lip colors, sculpted lighting, and enormous hairstyle all contribute to a major visual change.

Nicole Is Facing an Unwritten Future

The cover arrives during a period of personal adjustment for the actress. Nicole filed to end her marriage to Keith Urban in September 2025, nearly 20 years after they married, and their divorce was finalized in January 2026.

The former couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith, 15. In March, Nicole told Variety that she was “always going to be moving toward what’s good.”

“What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that,” she said. Nicole declined to discuss “everything else … out of respect,” explaining, “I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be.”

Her British Vogue interview examined that uncertainty more deeply. Speaking to the magazine, Nicole considered several descriptions for her current chapter before asking, “Like, where am I going? And what’s next?“

She admitted that the past year had not been easy and that her plans for the future no longer matched her present circumstances. Instead of pretending otherwise, she has been trying to accept the unexpected direction of her life.

“I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now,” Nicole said. “You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s… not.”

The uncertainty once left her “very fearful and deeply vulnerable,” but she saw two possible responses. She could avoid confronting it and withdraw, or move forward with “an enormous amount of hope.”

Nicole described herself as someone guided by feeling rather than constant analysis. “I’ve always wanted to live a well-examined life, so what does that entail?” she asked. “Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities.”

Her Family Remains the Priority

Family has given Nicole a firm point of focus while other parts of her life change. She said her children provide an “extraordinary purpose” that outweighs everything else.

Her message to them is similarly direct: “It’s OK, we’re here. You’ve got people who love you, who are going to hold your hand and get through it.”

Nicole has also relied on lessons from older women, including her late mother and another woman who helped raise her from the age of 16. Their advice taught her to accept that life can be unfair without letting that fact define her response.

“I know my character. I know my talent. I know who I am,” she said. That has allowed her to view professional disappointments and personal humiliation as experiences other people also survive.

Sunday and Faith have developed individual relationships with fashion as well. Nicole described Sunday as highly creative and “very European” in her style, with interests in photography and filmmaking.

Faith attended the Vogue school and, according to her mother, favors what Nicole calls “Bessette” style. Although the sisters look similar, Nicole sees their tastes and personalities as distinctly their own.

Fashion weeks have gradually become family outings when their school schedules allow. Sunday has walked for Dior twice, while Nicole continues her relationship with Chanel as a house ambassador.

Her European Summer Included a Mystery Man

Nicole spent part of the summer traveling through London, Ibiza, Paris, and Portofino. Although she joked that she rarely leaves her apartment, her recent schedule included theater trips, Wimbledon, dinners, concerts, and late nights.

Her preferred evening can fall at either end of the social scale. “It’s a small dinner party or it’s a rave,” she said. “I’m either playing Scrabble or I’m out. It’s that simple.”

When she chooses the second option, Nicole sometimes wears glasses and a small dark wig to avoid immediate recognition. She explained that being surrounded by people she trusts allows her to relax and dance.

During the same trip, she was photographed outside her Portofino, Italy, hotel on a Saturday in July 2026 with private equity investor Michael Reinstein. Page Six reported that they stood close together, smiling and talking before Michael left.

Nicole wore a silky cream camisole with a matching skirt, while Michael appeared in a blue shirt, shorts, and sunglasses. At one point, he reached through the grates covering her hotel window as he departed.

Michael, a Los Angeles native, founded the global private equity firm Regent in 2013. He serves as its chairman and chief investment officer and is also a co-founder of the USN television network.

His relationship status was not known, and Nicole’s representative did not respond to the outlet’s request for comment. The friendly interaction offered no confirmation that the two were romantically involved.

The sighting came months after multimillionaire businessman Paul Salem was reportedly pursuing Nicole. A source maintained in February that she was a “single woman,” adding, “She is not dating anyone … She is focused on her kids.”

Work and Fashion Keep Pulling Her Forward

Nicole’s next major release reconnects her with Sandra Bullock in “Practical Magic 2,” arriving 28 years after the original film. Nicole said fans drove the sequel forward by repeatedly asking whether they would ever see the Owens sisters again.

The actresses had barely seen one another in the intervening decades, apart from a red-carpet encounter. Sandra said they nevertheless returned to their roles with ease because their differences create an on-screen chemistry that cannot be manufactured.

The sequel also gave Nicole a chance to embrace lighter material after completing several emotionally heavy projects. However, she still approached the story’s family secrets and inherited trauma with her usual seriousness.

That intensity has sustained a career that began when she was 14. Nicole will turn 60 in 2027, but she continues to work frequently while reading literature, essays, philosophy, medical journals, and poetry between projects.

Fashion remains tied to that creative curiosity. Her mother and grandmother were accomplished seamstresses and embroiderers who showed her that an intellectual life and an appreciation for beautiful clothes could comfortably coexist.

As a young woman, Nicole saved her money for clothing because she believed one special piece could change how others saw her. She also recalled visiting trans clubs, where people helped style her hair and makeup.

Decades later, she still understands exactly how powerfully hair, makeup, and clothing can alter someone’s presence. The September cover pushes that fascination to its limit, surrounding Nicole with massive hair, moody cosmetics, and outfits that move between refined and delightfully excessive.

Kaia Gerber Wears a Vintage-Inspired Black Dress to the US Open Blue Carpet Alongside Richard Gere’s Son Homer — Photos

The young co-stars arrived looking effortlessly matched for one of New York’s biggest sporting nights, but a closer look at their outfits left viewers fixated on details that sparked some brutally candid comparisons.

Kaia Gerber, 24, and Homer Gere, 26, walked the US Open Blue Carpet in New York City on August 25, 2026, before an exhibition honoring tennis icon Roger Federer.

Their polished appearance together was already enough to attract attention, but once the photographs spread, Homer found himself at the center of comments about everything from his famous father to one styling choice people simply could not leave alone.

Kaia and Homer Turned a Tennis Night Into a Fashion Moment

Kaia knows how to make something deceptively simple look far more interesting than it first appears, and her US Open outfit was a perfect example.

She arrived in a body-skimming black dress with a plunging V-neckline and low scoop back, creating a sleek silhouette that looked made for an elegant evening rather than an athletic event.

There was, however, a clever reason the design suited a tennis celebration. According to W Magazine, the dress was Yana Matkivski’s Donna design, which takes inspiration from old-school bathing suits.

Instead of simply mimicking vintage swimwear visually, the designer worked those ideas into the dress’s construction. The dense viscose ponte-knit piece contains a bodysuit beneath its fitted pencil skirt, along with an internal liner designed to shape the body while allowing enough stretch to move comfortably.

In other words, Kaia managed to show up in an evening dress that quietly borrowed from sportswear without looking remotely like she had dressed for a workout. She leaned firmly into glamour with the rest of the outfit.

Oversized Side Eye sunglasses covered much of her face, while Paris Texas Lidia mules kept the look sleek from head to toe. She also wore a gold Panthère de Cartier watch and carried a tiger-print Fendi baguette, giving the otherwise dark ensemble a little flash of pattern.

Standing beside her was Homer, who kept things considerably more relaxed. He wore a black blazer over a collared shirt that was left open at the neckline, pairing the pieces with jeans.

Side by side, the actors looked almost suspiciously coordinated. That visual harmony was particularly fitting because the two have spent much of the summer appearing together while promoting FX’s “The Shards.”

A TikTok video from their US Open arrival described the outing as a fun New York City crossover, noting that Kaia and Homer had also been photographed together for Vogue that day.

But the fashion was only part of what made seeing these two together so fascinating. Their family history could have made their first meeting spectacularly awkward. Instead, they insist it was anything but.

Their Parents Shared a Hollywood History Before They Ever Met

Kaia is the daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, while Homer is Richard Gere’s son with his second wife, Carey Lowell. Long before Kaia and Homer became scene partners, Cindy and Richard were one of Hollywood’s most recognizable couples.

Cindy and Richard were married from 1991 until 1995. That meant their children entered the same acting project decades later with an unusually personal connection already sitting in the background.

There was just one catch. Kaia and Homer had never met. Homer explained the unlikely situation during an E! News interview at the New York City premiere of “The Shards” on July 27, 2026.

“We hadn’t met before shooting,” he said. “Two weeks before, we met at a bar with all the other cast and we became friends. It’s funny.”

There was apparently no strange conversation about their parents’ romantic past or uncomfortable attempt to make sense of the connection. For Homer, their relationship quickly became something much more ordinary.

“From the inside, it’s really normal,” he continued. “We just became friends as coworkers before we started working and she’s become a really close friend. It’s been lovely working with her.”

Kaia sounded equally delighted with her new friend and scene partner.

“It was so lovely to work with him,” she said. “He’s so wonderful. He’s so funny. He makes me laugh so hard and he’s the greatest scene partner ever. And really, it’s such a supportive environment and we’ve gotten so close over this process.”

Those comments make their relaxed body language at the US Open rather easy to understand. They had already become genuine friends.

And that friendship proved particularly valuable once cameras started rolling on a project that could get considerably darker than their cheerful red-carpet appearances suggested.

Their Friendship Helped With the Darker Side of “The Shards”

“The Shards” places Kaia and Homer inside a much more unsettling world than the one surrounding the US Open. The FX drama is based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel and comes from executive producer Ryan Murphy.

According to Disney, the series is set in 1980s Los Angeles and follows a privileged group of high school seniors at an elite prep school. Their glossy teenage lives become tangled in questions of identity, jealousy, and obsession while something much more frightening grows around them.

Igby Rigney plays Bret, an observant aspiring writer whose sense of reality begins deteriorating following the arrival of a mysterious student named Robert Mallory, played by Homer.

His character transfers to the school just before senior year, at the same time that fear is spreading over a serial killer known as The Trawler, who is targeting teenagers in Los Angeles.

Kaia plays Susan Reynolds, part of Bret’s wealthy and deeply intertwined social group. Hayes Warner portrays Debbie Schaffer, while Graham Campbell plays Thom Wright. Wes Bentley, Evan Rachel Wood and Jordan Roth are among the actors portraying the adults whose lives intersect with the teenagers.

For the cast, working through such intense material became considerably easier because the friendships behind the scenes were genuine. Homer told People that their bond kept the mood from becoming unbearably heavy.

“I think the fact that we’re actually close friends kept it inherently light,” he said. “We had constant sounding boards for each other. So I don’t think there was a day on set that there wasn’t real laughter and fun.”

That may have made navigating a demanding production easier, but Homer also had one particularly experienced person waiting on the other end of the phone whenever he needed guidance.

Homer Still Calls Richard Gere From the Set

Being Richard’s son certainly comes with access to one of the more useful Hollywood phone contacts imaginable. Homer said his father remains a regular source of advice while he is working.

The conversations, however, are not simply acting lessons from a veteran movie star to his son. Richard has apparently focused more on helping Homer understand the realities of maintaining a career and behaving professionally on set.

“I call him almost every day when I’m on set,” Homer said. “He’s really the most invaluable resource in terms of making this all work for me, so it’s really special to have him in my corner.”

That affectionate description made the reaction to Homer’s latest photographs especially amusing. Because once people saw him walking beside Kaia at the US Open, some immediately started studying his face for traces of Richard. They had opinions. Very definite opinions.

Viewers Had Blunt Thoughts About Homer’s Famous Resemblance

Some people apparently expected one glance at Homer to immediately scream Richard. They did not get what they were expecting. On TikTok, one commenter declared, “He looks nothing like his dad 💯 💯 💯.”

Another was equally certain, writing, “he doesn’t look anything like Richard Gere [sic].” Yet the family resemblance soon had competition from another subject. People began looking farther down Homer’s outfit, and his trousers became an entire conversation of their own.

One commenter wrote, “His pants are too short.” Another demanded, “Why are the guys wearing cropped pants????” A third person had virtually the same concern: “Why are his jeans so short?”

Netizens were split over Homer Gere's appearance, with some claiming he strongly resembles Richard Gere while others disagreed. In this photo, he arrived at the US Open on August 25, 2026, in New York City. | Source: Getty Images

It is hard to imagine Homer expected the hem of his trousers to become one of the evening’s talking points, especially while standing beside Kaia in a meticulously designed dress.

Still, social media rarely leaves a styling decision unexamined. And once the comparisons to his parents moved to Facebook, another commenter had a full theory about exactly where Homer’s looks came from:

“Shes mama’s twin but he must’ve got his moms looks cause the only thing similar to his father is the hair [sic].”

Many fans discussed how much Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber resembled their famous parents during their appearance at the US Open. | Source: Getty Images

Not everybody was interested in deciding which parent he resembled more. One admirer skipped straight past the genealogy lesson. “He is hotter than his dad..Whew!!!” the commenter wrote. That may not have been the father-son comparison Richard expected, but it was certainly enthusiastic.

Kaia may have delivered the polished fashion moment, but Homer Gere clearly gave viewers just as much to discuss. Together, the friends turned a night at the US Open into a memorable outing that had people studying both sides of the carpet photos.

Naomi Watts and Daughter Kai Light Up the Gucci Show at Milan Fashion Week in Contrasting Looks — Photos

The actress brought sumptuous satin, her model daughter brought attitude, and the admirers were hardly going to sit there quietly and behave.

Naomi Watts and Kai Schreiber, now 17, attended Gucci’s The Store Show at Allianz MiCo in Milan, Italy, on September 25, 2026, during Milan Fashion Week’s Womenswear Spring/Summer 2027 presentations.

Both looked thoroughly pleased to let their outfits do the talking, but Kai’s beauty choices inspired some deliciously unfiltered reactions, including a little unsolicited styling advice for her famous mom.

Naomi Went Full Jewel Box, but Wait Until You See Kai

Naomi arrived in a lustrous magenta satin pantsuit, and honestly, what a gorgeous argument for retiring the safe black blazer. That rich color deserved good lighting and an entrance.

The jacket’s plunging neckline gave the tailoring a sultry edge, while wide-leg trousers skimmed the floor with a lovely, languid sweep. Even the fabric looked expensive to touch.

A sleek black leather shoulder bag and pointed-toe heels finished the outfit. Sensible supporting players, those accessories, because nobody needed to interrupt that satin.

Her textured blonde bob fell in soft waves around a middle part, bringing a little ease to the sharp suit. Luminous skin and gently defined eyes kept her makeup fresh, with a rosy-berry lip adding just enough color to flatter the ensemble.

Then there was Kai, whose crisp white sleeveless turtleneck mini dress initially suggested a rather restrained approach. A high neckline, a clean silhouette, a short hem: very chic, very composed.

Her structured white shoulder bag continued the immaculate theme, while metallic silver mule heels brought a lovely flash at her feet. You could almost call the outfit sweet.

Almost.

Because above that pristine neckline was a beauty look with considerably more nerve. Kai’s extra-long blonde hair fell in fine, crimped micro-waves, and intense dark smoky makeup framed her eyes against a pale, matte complexion.

Neutral lips left those eyes free to command attention. The simplicity of her dress made the styling especially effective. All that white gave the dark eye makeup its own spotlight, while her long, textured hair added an edge beside Naomi’s softly waved bob.

Matching outfits would have been easy. These two gave us something far more fun to look at. On Instagram, an admirer summed up the beauty appreciation with “the glam!!”

Another addressed Kai with a practical suggestion for their next appearance: “You need to get your mum a bigger set of heels 👠🤣.” Apparently, even a fabulous satin suit cannot protect a mother from unsolicited shoe advice.

A Facebook commenter focused on the family resemblance, writing, “Kai is so pretty like her mom. 💕” Over on TikTok, one admirer was operating at a considerably higher volume: “YES YES YES YES YES THIS LOOK IS EVERYTHING AND BEYOND GORGEOUS I SCREAMED.”

Another offered the beautifully economical verdict, “Ok so you’re perfect.” Someone else was already planning a future makeup appointment: “Halloween makeup saving for to show Makeup artist [sic].”

When your eye makeup starts inspiring somebody else’s calendar, you have certainly made an impression.

Gucci Gave Her a Seat; Thom Browne Gave Her Wings

Kai was enjoying Gucci from the audience, but the 17-year-old had already been the main attraction on another designer’s runway that month. And her assignment involved rather more than walking prettily in expensive shoes.

On September 16, Thom Browne presented his Spring 2027 womenswear collection at The Shed in New York. He turned the venue into an enormous garden, with an oversized daisy and blades of grass reaching about 20 feet high.

A massive chrysalis stood in the center. Naturally, this fashion show required a cocoon. Demi Moore and Penn Badgley attended, alongside Adam Scott and Rachel Zegler. Naomi and Kai’s father, Liev Schreiber, were also together in the front row, cameras out and ready.

Nine butterflies appeared in the presentation, but Kai was the only model who entered the chrysalis and emerged in a different ensemble, a look referencing Thom’s signature gray suit. A starring role and an onstage costume transformation, all with Mom and Dad recording.

“It was very surreal,” Kai told Vanity Fair afterward.

Thom had deliberately chosen her for the performance. “I knew that I wanted to have a butterfly moment that was more of a performance, and knowing that Kai could move, I wanted her to be the focus and the star,” he explained.

For the native New Yorker, it was an especially lovely opportunity to reconnect with dance. She had studied dance and classical ballet at LaGuardia, but had struggled to find a place for it in her life after graduating.

“I couldn’t stay trying to train to become a professional because that wasn’t what I wanted,” she explained. Here, she could bring that training into modeling, striking poses that blended fashion with modern dance. What a gorgeous way to put those ballet lessons back to work.

She had already admired Thom’s taste for theatrical runway ideas, remembering the aliens in his Spring/Summer 2026 presentation, “We Come in Peace.” This time, his imagination had landed in the insect world, drawing inspiration from the 1998 film “A Bug’s Life.”

Embroidery and intarsia carried that theme into the tailoring, with ladybug silhouettes joining the collection. Thom remained loyal to his sartorial favorite, however: “The gray suit never gets old.”

But Kai had a rather more colorful souvenir. Still wearing her rainbow runway eyeshadow during the interview, she explained, “I feel like a unicorn.” After emerging from a giant chrysalis, why limit yourself to one magical creature?

Her Breakthrough Award Came With Applause and Towering Heels

That runway performance followed a history-making win on September 11 at The Daily Front Row’s Fashion Media Awards. At Rockefeller Center’s Rainbow Room in New York City, Kai accepted Breakthrough Model of the Year.

She had already modeled for Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Fendi, and Celine. Quite the collection of names to have on a résumé at 17.

For the ceremony, she wore a lime-green mini dress with voluminous long sleeves and tonal polka dots. Sheer stockings decorated with flowers added another playful flourish, because evidently the dress was only the beginning.

Towering white heels with gold studs and an opulent diamond necklace completed the look. Her blonde hair was pulled into a tight bun, leaving that glorious outfit plenty of room to show off.

The Daily Mail reported that applause erupted when Kai told the audience, “I’m also the first transgender girl to win this award.” She acknowledged the women who had helped make her place in the industry possible. “I carry that with me into every room,” she said.

Valentino received thanks for dressing her and helping welcome her into fashion. Her family earned a particularly tender line: “I’m so lucky to be supported by you.”

This support at home includes Naomi and Liev, who separated in 2016 after an eleven-year relationship, and her older brother, Alexander “Sasha” Pete Schreiber, who is currently 18.

Having her parents watching did make delivering the speech nerve-racking, she later admitted. Still, her closing words were wonderfully assured: “To say the least, I’ve found my fashion family, and I couldn’t be more happy.”

Her Inspiration List Still Has Room for Mom

Kai had spoken about that community in a 2025 Interview Q&A, naming Alex Consani and Hunter Schafer among the people she admired. Hari Nef, Dara, Richie Shazam, and Colin Jones also made her list.

“As a young trans girl, I’m always going to look up to the older generation of transgender people, especially in fashion,” she said. She explained the significance of those connections plainly:

“It’s important to all of us to have a sense of community, especially when we’re under such hostile attack.”

As for her personal fashion influences, Kai told Vanity Fair that she admired Gabbriette, the Olsen twins, and Kate Moss. Naomi made the list, too, which is a pretty fabulous compliment from a daughter building her own modeling career.

And in Milan, Mom certainly justified her inclusion. Naomi looked divine in that jewel-toned satin, while Kai Schreiber gave her white mini enough attitude to keep netizens thoroughly entertained. They can leave the matching outfits to someone else; this family clearly has more than one excellent idea about getting dressed.

The annual gala—widely known as the “Nerd Prom”—had been underway for only about 20 minutes after the president and first lady arrived when the dramatic incident unfolded. According to federal authorities, an armed man tried to force his way through a secured checkpoint and advance toward the main ballroom before being confronted by U.S. Secret Service agents.

Investigators identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, a teacher, video game developer, and California Institute of Technology (Caltech) graduate. Officials said Allen was carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives when he rushed the security perimeter, setting off an immediate law enforcement response.

Secret Service agents intercepted the suspect inside the hotel lobby before he could reach the crowded ballroom. A violent struggle followed, during which gunfire erupted. One Secret Service agent was struck at close range, but officials said the agent’s ballistic vest prevented fatal injuries. The wounded officer was transported to a nearby hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. Allen sustained minor injuries before being taken into federal custody.

Within moments, security teams ordered a full evacuation of the venue as heavily armed officers swept the hotel to ensure there were no additional threats. Although organizers initially considered resuming the evening’s program, the White House Correspondents’ Association ultimately canceled the event, citing ongoing security concerns. Officials say the dinner is expected to be rescheduled with significantly enhanced security measures.

President Trump praised the swift actions of the Secret Service, crediting the agency with preventing what could have been a far more serious tragedy. He condemned the suspect’s actions and backed the decision to prioritize the safety of everyone in attendance.

Federal investigators have launched an extensive investigation into Allen’s background, possible motives, and recent activities. Authorities are searching his California residence and reviewing writings reportedly sent to family members shortly before the incident. Investigators currently believe Allen acted alone and have found no immediate evidence of a broader plot or continuing threat.

The attempted attack has intensified scrutiny of security procedures surrounding major political events in the nation’s capital, with officials expected to review how an armed suspect came so close to one of Washington’s most heavily protected annual gatherings.
